Ativan for Anxiety

Postby jalusa » Fri Aug 28, 2015 11:43 am

I know this has come up before. I just want to put a plug in for Ativan for anxiety. I had weaned myself off of any anxiety meds but had a bad day yesterday. I took .5 Ativan when I got home, what a difference.

Don't be afraid to look for help with anxiety.
Hoping to get to resection with HAI pump.

I'm for Ativan or Xanax all around when dealing with cancer. I'll be even happier when he government figures out to make marijuana profitable for them so it can be legalized everywhere :P

Kim, I can assure you that illegal marijuana works as well as legalized weed. Lorazepam isn't even close.

Ativan was part of the bag of pill bottles I got. The pharmacist stated that it was a mild antiemetic. I came into this whole thing with a pretty serious (and pathological) anxiety about needles. Anything that compromised the skin. I've still never seen the scene in pulp fiction where he jabs Uma Thurman.

Anyway, when I finally tried it to calm my guts I was shocked at how targeted it was at the feeling of anxiety. I was certainly a little mentally impaired, but less so than on the Dex, but mainly, I didn't have anxiety. I'm still a little spooked by it, like it was hocus pocus. But, if you've got some scanxiety (esp an MRI or something where you need to be still) that ativan can be surprisingly specific.

I've got no problem with using medications when necessary, but I would only suggest that if you think anxiety is going to be an ongoing concern, you're going to need to develop some coping skills, because you really don't want to become dependent on something like Ativan. Counseling might be something to consider.

If you can learn to acknowledge and accept your situation, it should be easier to cope without needing anxiety drugs. At least, that's been my experience.

Ativan (given in a hospital setting, so pretty sure she got the correct dose) made my sister "lose" three days.
I'm scared of the stuff!

NIH offered it as a sleep-aid while I was hospitalized. I refused. When I asked for phenergan instead, they said, "We really only give that for nausea..."

I didn't get much sleep those 24 days. :P

I started on Ativan .5 mg twice a day shortly after my diagnosis. A couple of weeks before my surgery, the surgeon upped it to 1 mg twice a day. I don't like to take meds. I don't like to feel woozy or zombielike. But I had that underlying panicky feeling and I wanted it gone. Ativan does that for me without making me feel drowsy or drugged. I guess it's different for everyone, but it's really helped me.

Lol! I resent the hassle. I want to pick up weed with my groceries. They should stock it in the potato chip aisle.
