Aspirin vs Turmeric? Both?

Postby plastikos » Tue Aug 25, 2015 9:37 am

Hi all. Not sure if this has been asked before.

We all want to stay NED. Exercise and a healthier diet is a given. Apparently Vit. D3 is too, and I am taking that upon my onc's recommendation. Plan to maybe try IP6 as well. Have been taking turmeric capsules and adding powder regularly to my meals since chemo ended. Have been avoiding aspirin since I am allergic to Ibuprofen and just assumed I would be to aspirin as well. I tried one and I am not.
So just wanted some advice.

Are Aspirin and turmeric ok together or should I just pick one? If so which one? It was mentioned somewhere here that they "cancel each other out" but I cant find any studies that support or debunk this. Opinions?

I take both and no issues. I have not came across the concern you mentioned. Make sure the Tumeric is modified for bioavailability and should read such on the label. Bob

I take both as well. Haven't seen any info on them "canceling each other out". My naturopath specifically recommended a type of Turmeric called C3, which is the version used in most clinical research studies. C3 also has bioperine for better absorption. Many different brand names sell C3. FYI, I use this one:

We cook with turmeric, which contains about 3% curcumin. We buy 95% curcumin, the concentrated turmeric extract, with bioperines (from black pepper), as the supplement, similar to what lpas shows. It's important to check the content label carefully, marketing depts are happy to take advantage of added confusion over turmeric and curcumin. 81 mg aspirin is what we add to the stack.

I have not seen any reports that they contradict each other - I personally have taken both curcumin extracts and NSAIDS such as aspirin simultaneously.

Hi Jane,

I found this article really interesting and useful. If you click through to page 4, there's a summary of supplement recommendations along with recommended dosages:

http://www.lifeextension.com/Protocols/Cancer/Colorectal/Page-01

Hope this helps!

Hey Julie,

In the article above which I'm reading with great interest they are talking about CTC, circular tumor testing. They check wether there are cancer cells in your bloodstream.

Have you had that done? It says it has predictive value as to how long you might remain ned. Before I ask my oncologist, I need to think if I want to know this.... Will it add to anxiety if it's a negative outcome, will it give me false hope?

Hmmmm..... Difficult ine.
would I want to know....
( apart from is it available to me this type of testing)

I haven't but it does sound interesting, doesn't it? Unfortunately, I think it's one of those tests that insurance generally doesn't cover and it's pretty expensive on a self-pay basis. I also agree about not necessarily wanting to know! At a minimum, I'd want to be sure there's something useful that can be done with the results beyond just prognostic information. Is there a different kind of chemo the doctor might try depending on the results? It seems like the chemo choices in CRC are already pretty limited.

With all that said, I think DK37 had this done. FYI, he posted about it here:
