Lymph Nodes Question

Postby Scaredoutofmind » Mon Aug 24, 2015 2:28 pm

Out of curiosity, how many lymph nodes were removed and tested positive? What was/is your treatment plan and are any of you NED?

I don't think you'll learn much from your question. Prior to 2010, surgeons might only take 2 or 3 nodes. Then it was determined that it was better to take 12 or more. People with RECTAL CRC have hundreds of nodes in that area so they'll have way more removed than someone with colon cancer.

I had 17 removed and 5 had microscopic cancer cells and three years later had a spread to one small spot in my liver. No one mentioned nodes when I had my liver resection so either they didn't take any or they were all clear. At this point, I don't even want to know. I did NOT have to have chemo after the HR, tho.
Stage III cc surgery 1/7/09. 12 tx FOLFOX
Stage IV PET = 1.5cm liver met. HR 4/11/12

14 years since dx and 11 years post liver resection.

Yes, and your pathology report only tells you how many were tested. They may actually remove more than were tested.
