Oxiplatin and 5fu pump..... Last chance.

Postby Jason43 » Sun Aug 16, 2015 1:34 pm

After being on and attempting all the others I'm left to try this. I never wanted to try oxiplatin. It was the one chemo drug that I didn't want to do. The side effects scare me. My CEA has went way up and the scan showed massive growth. The tumors grew from 1.2 cm to 3.8 cm. there were no new tumors just growth in the ones I have. I did attempt the liver resection and lung resection in January but unfortunately the tumors grew back and now 4xs as big. I told my oncologist that I'm only doing 3 rounds of this and if there's no improvement I'm done with chemo. I just don't know when enough is enough? How does this end?
Stage 4
Many spots on liver 11/19/13
Unable to resect liver
Tumor removed 11/26/13
Liver resection 11/7/14
Lung resection 1/10/15
New tumors on liver already after 1st scan after surgeries.
Back on chemo 2/4/15
CEA from 1.7 to 37.2 8/10/2015
CEA 22.5 but have quadrupled in my lungs
Went through every chemo
I fought the fight. Gods hands now. Or Trials?

So sorry. I hope folfox is effective for you. Oxi wasn't fun, but it wasn't as bad as I had expected. Sending prayers.

Doing my second attempt on the Oxili now. The side effects aren't fun but if it works.....

Everyone reacts differently, however, the side effects tend to get worse the more doses you have. I've had two so far in this go around, and I'm having mild hand & foot numbness. The cold insensitivity hasn't been too bad but then it's not like it's the dead of winter as it was the last time I was on it.

Best of luck!

I hope the oxi will be effective. Thanks for giving it a try. I made my mets shrink from round 3.

I have had 6.5 oxi treatments. They were not bad for me, the usual hand/foot neuropathy, jaw pain with first bite of food, and bad eye pain. These all get better or ease up after about 3 days. None are intolerable. I had an allergic reaction with round 7, which apparently happens to some people, and this Tuesday they will try to do oxi again with mega steroids before. The therapy after 6 treatments reduced my tumors over 50% so if I were you I'd consider giving it a try.

My reply on your other thread....
I agree to just try, it did great for shrinking for me and I only did the first 3 with oxi, shrunk to half size

It was only after the 12th cycle of Oxi that I developed neuropathy simultaneously in hands and feet.
My SO developed it in her hands ( but not the feet) after 9 rounds of chemo. The 10th cycle has been 5FU and Avastin only.
It does take many cycles for neuropathy to develop and I believe for patients with metastases it is very effective.

JMO….
you can give it a try and if it is messing with you too much, ask for a dose reduction, decrease number of cycles or stop.

I did the dirty dozen with 1 dose reduction of Oxi @ cycle 8 of 12.
Still have "tingling" neuropathy of hands and feet now 5 years out … BUTT as a vet was able to do regular surgeries with scalpels and lasers ….
SO IMO it was a win for me.

Best wishes

I'll start round 4 of Oxy on Thursday. Reduction began with round two which made side effects tolerable so far. Hopefully, you'll tolerate it too and get good results. Like others have said, you can always reduce the dosage or cycles, if necessary.
