So, this upcoming scan on Monday is freaking me out... butt, someone compared it to a six month dental checkup in terms of anxiety. Well NO its not the same. Dental bad newest is temporary. Scanter bad news is,well,bad. Rant over.

Wow, I assume they don't have cancer, what a horrible comparison!

Ditto what Nik said - whoever said that to you must not have cancer experience.

I do wonder - do NED folks have more or less scanxiety than those with active disease?

I would say that I have moderate anxiety after the scan before I get the results. There is "that damn elephant in the room".

About two weeks before my scan...I can't sleep
During the scan..My mind is repeating....please no cancer , please no cancer
Then I have a week wait before my results...which is pure torture!

I've been NED since my colon resection....I can't continue to be this lucky...I know my cancer will eventually come back...so it's just a mind game that no person should ever have to go through.

And they say..stress is a cancer factor...well DUH!

JD - why do you think it must come back? There are those on this board that had more advanced disease than yours that have been NED for a long time.

I guess i am fortunate in that I get my results about two hours after my scan. My doctor has been incredibly good about that. I have scan around 11:00 am and then get lunch and meet my onc around 1 or 2 for the "news".

Each patient responds differently, but I'm very nervous prior to a scan and also when I get the results. I've always become anxious very easily- I could not have survived combat overseas.

I had no anxiety when dx and none after finding out stage 4, I am currently NED after surgery and find myself more anxious on my next scan, I guess hoping it doesn't return.
