Having Surgery Tuesday Aug 11th 7am

Postby chrissyrice » Sun Aug 09, 2015 5:57 pm

Hi friends,
I will be having surgery after all. Emory Winship Cancer Center tumor board decided that chemo would not help now.

They need to get inside and visually see what is going on. No HIPEC planned.

Hopefully the lymph node(s) hanging on to the iliac arteries and veins will easily be removed without complications or major issues. None of us can figure out the extreme pain I get and the IBSc over the last year.

I will find out all the details about the surgery itself at preops tomorrow morning.

I am starting to remember my original surgery in Dec 2009 ... sick from morphine, ng tube, pain and so sick. It's not going to happen this time. No drugs without my approval and my husband is double checking the nurses. Motrin and Ativan worked the best for me... no pain pump this time.

I am taking some sugarless gum to chew and some hard candy peppermints to help get the bowels moving.

Got all the other essentials extension cord, kindle fire, and smart phone with charger power pack.
Butt cream and wipes.

Let me know what else I am forgetting???

I know that I am covered in prayers and hope I will be back home here by Sunday.

Good luck with your up coming surgery. You will be in my thoughts and prayers and I will be swing chickens for a positive outcome.

I too can not take morphine, gives me the hives. There is something else they give me for pain, can remember the name. But stress to them no morphine and why ay preop. As soon as I leave the hospital, it Motrin. Best stuff out there for pain and swelling.

2 things I found useful. A long bathrobe for walking the halls in those lovely hospital gowns with the open backs. And a comfortable pair of slippers, again for walking those halls.

Good luck,

You will be in my prayers for a successful surgery and a quick healing. It's just so strange, you were the one giving me encouragement and support around this time last year.

No further advice Chrissy, just wanted to say best of luck and I'll be thinking of you! I'm so glad to hear your tumor board agreed to the surgery. It definitely feels to me like the right next step.

Testing, yes it is so ironic how our paths of battling cancer have crossed.

It's wonderful to have so much help and hope this time around. Because last time I didn't find this awesome forum until I was well into chemo and side effects.

Also this time I am not freaking out ... I know what can happen and also how to avoid some side effects.

Testing, thanks for staying around here and passing on hope and support to everyone.

Lots of amazing stories of hope and facing life on life's terms.

Wishing you all the best, with a quick, uneventful recovery.
Jeff
Went in for surgery for a cyst on my bladder, and they found colon cancer growing on the outside of the colon. Got to have two surgeries at the same time! Stage 3, one node involved.

Wishing you the best. Not sure what a pain pump is, I had shots for a pain block, I hate morphine so I told them none of that, I did get fentynol, dilaudid, torodol, then oxy at the end. Not sure which of any of those u had, I also had a dilaudid drip. Hope all goes well.
