If you wish to do Xeloda, call Roche (maker of Xeloda) to see if there is anything they can help you with. They helped cover the cost of my doses for 6 months.

A picc line is inserted under sterile technique using a slightly bigger needle than one for an iv. Then a thin catheter is guided along until it is in proper placement. Xrays are taken to confirm placement.

I personally would want a port just because how u can't get a picc line wet but it's not a hard procedure. I do them at work and it takes longer for the xray to get there and to secure the dsg than it does for insertion.

Nurses are the people who insert picc lines usually. Surgeons have to insert ports.

I had bad luck with a pic line. It created blood clots in my arm, which caused a pulmonary embolism. I almost died.

I guess 5 weeks, i can handle it. I have to. I dont want to cause any more delays by requiring a port. They told me it was possible i wont need chemo after surgery, although i doubt it. But that's their reason for the picc line.

Things are moving so slowly- i am going crazy. Every week i seem to talk to yet another doc but nothing gets done. Next Wed i will see the radio- oncologist and it is not even sure if she will do my measurements for radiation then!!' I am losing my mind!

Just a little info, I had my port placed and chemo started the next day, no delays and the surgery is quick and easy, well for the patient at least :)

Mine was inserted on the inside of my right upper arm. Except when the pump was attached, no-one ever knew it was there.

I could. Tubing from the pump, which was attached to my belt, ran under my shirt and down the inside of my arm.

Good luck,

Congrats! One step accomplished. And hopefully proof that our imagination is often worse than reality. At least I know that's true for me!
