Pooping bits of tissue?

Postby Stardust » Sat Jul 04, 2015 5:57 pm

Still new at this CRC business...

So I had/have this massive tumor on the corner of Rectum & Colon that was almost blocking things entirely...they put me on 10 days of Radiation prior to starting chemo, to try to shrink the tumor to prevent a full obstruction. Since I started radiation (it's done now, last day of it was Tuesday), I've been pooping out these...translucent, peach-ish, slightly bloody...things...at first I thought it was just globs of mucus, but I realized a couple days ago that they seem to be bits of tissue. (Not toilet tissue, but like living tissue.)

Am I actually pooping out the tumor as it shrinks? The doctor didn't say anything about this...

Also sometimes I'll just be sitting/lying there and my bowels will cramp up something fierce, I'll have to run to the bathroom but nothing will come out except one of the globs. Honestly, what it reminds me most of is when I had an early miscarriage a few years ago, though not as bloody and with different muscles involved.

I would love it if some of you could tell me this is normal, or at least normal-ish!
Dx Rectal cancer stage IV met to lungs - 6/8/2015
Radiation to shrink the tumor 6/16 - 6/30/2015
Starting chemo FOLFOX 7/10/2015
Ended FOLFOX 11/26/15 due to Oxaliplatin side effects and bad neuropathy.
Restarted chemo w/just Avastin & Xeloda 5/2016. Been on that regimen for 1 1/2 years, still have low CEAs. Let's hope it keeps working!

I would add some more descriptive information, as it does feel like things are tearing out of your rectum, some people call it feeling like your pooping glass. I was of notice of the bits of tissue, and I also believe the treatment is killing the tumor. Hydrocodone, and warm baths will help relieve the pain. There is nothing like seeing treatment work, as you go through it. I took each observance, as a triumph 8)

I'm pretty sure the same thing happened to me. I remember my surgeon telling me about how the tumour can 'melt away' during radiation treatment so I think it is normal for bits of tissue to die and fall off - and if they fall off, then there's only one place they're gonna go!
Oct 2013 - Dx Stage 2/3 low rectal cancer
Dec 2013- 6 weeks neo-adjuvant chemo-rad
Apr 2014 - PET and MRI show 'complete response'
May 2014 - Chose 'watch and wait' instead of APR surgery
Jun-Sep 2014 - 'adjuvant' chemo - 5FU
Sep 2014 - PET and MRI clear

It could be intestinal lining sloughing off, as well. I believe that can happen with radiation.

I did shed something, for me it was more flat (paper flat). I would find it in the bottom of the tub after I would soak my bottom. There was quite a bit of it at times. I just assumed it was the tumor dieing off.

I also saw pieces of what I thought were fatty nodules. Nope. The doctor said it was pieces of the tumor. I had a 5cm tumor and must of pooped it all out cause there was none left after surgery. I credit my radiation team for that one.

I had this, too. My tumor is (was, I hope) 6cm and I saw a lot of pink tissue in the toilet during treatment. Sometimes when it felt like I needed to have a bowel movement, all that came out was pink clumps of tissue. I took this as a good sign, but it was also gross.
