That totally Sucks....What the Heck? My Oncologist told me something once that made some sense to me. If your Lymph node Catch the Cancer cells. Then they are working. Hopefully the doctor got it and it was slow growning and storing. This is scary and crazy. Prayers that the treatment is easy.

That's quite a punch in the gut after 5 years NED. May take a few days, few weeks to get your mojo back, but you will...because you have to. I don't know what is the bigger slap in the face or if there is any comparison; to have been NED for 5 years to find out you are no longer & have that taken away, or to have never been NED & hoped for it so long. No point in pondering that one. Hoping it's just the one lymph node.

Best Wishes

I am so sad to hear this....give yourself some time, then get set for round 2. Hopefully you can be ned again soon. I can relate to the beach thing....I have lived in Arizona since I was 14 and I really don't get to the beach as much as I would like....something soothing about just sitting on the shore and listening to the waves...I would get out a calendar and plan a future beach date...
Hang in there....

Oh, Chrissy. This news is astonishing. After 5 years!! Take some time to fit this is to your world, then go after it again. I know many stage IVs who have had a recurrence then gone on to being NED for many years. Sending you much love and all the support and encouragement I can give you. You are an awesome woman, get drunk then kick your awesomeness into overdrive.

Love,

I'm so sorry, Chrissy. I know you must feel so defeated.

However, keep in mind that the node has been identified, and you can now move forward with aggressive treatment.

G'day Chrissy,
First of all sending a giant hug . Those of us who have had long term survival cringe when we see a post like this. I have had it explained to me by my oncologist years ago. I had asked if colon cancer can regenerate from one bad cell. He said that in his opinion it can't , from research that he had seen several cancer cells have to meet to form a met and start up again. That was the prime reason for chemo. Not to clean up micromets rather to kill individual cells so they cannot form micromets. My surgeon was a quaint almost eccentric old school doc. Right up to year six of survival he kept telling me that I was not out of the woods. After six years he was willing to call me clear and cured of that cancer. THAT cancer! He then went on to tell me that a lot of things have to go wrong in the human body for cancer to form, we do have natural defences. He went on to say that once we have fulfilled the criteria to get cancer once we are forever in the zone and have to stay vigilant for further cancers. I have tried to maintain that vigilance . The closest I have come is 2mm polyps with displaysia. My Gi was stunned that such small polyps would have pre cancerous changes. I have been clear of cancer for nearly seventeen years. I still don't take survival for granted and I still battle serious long term side effects of chemo that may yet kill me. I truly understand how you feel at the moment. I have battled the same fears for a long time. I wish you well for your upcoming treatment and hope that it will result in long term survival. Hugs again to you and your hubby. Ron.

Chrissy,

I am so sorry to hear this; I so hoped it would be a false alarm. I am coming up on five years, and if I got (get?) news like that I would not be nearly as gracious as you are. It sounds like you are getting ready to take it on and I hope that the treatment is successful. It is not the same as beaches in CA, but we live on a beautiful island in WA (we're biased of course) with a 1700 foot view of the Salish Sea and a guest house and you and your husband are welcome any time once you get this next round behind you.

Chrissy,

I am so very sorry to read this. I was hoping and praying it was a swollen node not due to cancer but other reasons. After all this time, hopefully that is the only issue and you will soon be back in NEDville. Thinking of you,

Thanks so much everyone.

You all have helped me so much with your replies and ideas.

So I am getting my mojo back and ready to ask the surgeon some good questions on Monday. Not sure if I will get a second opinion or not it depends on what happens when we talk. He didn't do my resection and is at another hospital.

Like I forgot that I don't have to rush into surgery... I can wait a couple of weeks and get things settled at work and perhaps the hubby and I can get to the ocean for a few days.

Remember we are working under the assumption that this is a slower grower and I am not in danger of poop backing up to my ears!

I still am pissed about not getting my 5 year NED trophy on August 1st this year! I was so close, that it's like one of those awful nightmares.

I am so glad I have this place to come to and share my thoughts without judgements or stupid questions from people who don't get it.

I also started to believe in the future again... but I am 63 and the body is getting out of shape for long walks on the beach... guess I be spending more time at the tiki bar and if I can make it to the restroom in time that is exercise enough!
