Last week I met with Dr. K after she returned from her vacation. I had a scan at the end of May prior to leaving on our own annual trip to Myrtle Beach. I was able to retrieve the results from the online portal during our vacation and read "No evidence of metastatic disease." Yahoo! This scan was 6 years and 3 months post my colon/liver resection and HAI pump implantation.
In the the beginning of February of this year, however, immediately prior to having my pump removed I had a flare up from my cervical compression. My right hand went numb and lost all its strength. I had an MRI in March and then had three vertebrae fused together and secured with a set of titanium plates. Spent the last couple of months in a neck brace and physical therapy but am so happy to return to yoga this past week. The MRI of my neck back in March reported a thyroid nodule and Dr. K recommended we also include an ultrasound after my last CT. The results from the MSK ultrasound at the end of May reported nodules on both sides of the thyroid as well as some inflamed lymph nodes. Dr K seems unconcerned about them and remarked the nodes are likely from my recent neck surgery. Praying that is the case but she recommended a follow-up ultrasound in September to see how the thyroid looks. So on the whole, good news. I remain NED from the Stage IV colon cancer more than 6 years from my resections and 5 1/2 years from my last chemotherapy treatment and pray the thyroid discovery is benign.
Summer is here and at our household we have summer baseball, swim team, camp, riding lessons, Tae Kwon Do, giant ice pops and lazy days at the pool ahead of us. We recently adopted 3 shelter kittens (as one apparently wasn't enough for the kids) and they keep us busy. In August we head to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone. I will be able to cross one of the remaining states off my list when we go to Montana. After that I will have only one more state to see (Idaho) so I will have almost completed my bucket list item to see every state in this beautiful country I call home.
My Sweet Katie is 6 years and 8 months old. While a spitfire and a challenge at times, she will always be my Angel on Earth.
Everyday is a day to be thankful for.
In hope,
Amy
