FLOX vs FOLFOX

Postby tigerpaw » Sat Jun 27, 2015 8:54 am

I live in Norway, where it is more common to use FLOX than FOLFOX as adjuvant therapy for crc. The main advantage with FLOX is no pump, no port.
If anyone is interested, here is a link to a paper discussing pro's and con's with both regimens.

Sorry, I didn't read, but one could do Xelox and not do port if they wished as Xeloda is the pill form of 5fu and could do oxi via iv. I prefer my port as I have crappy veins anyway. Not sure if that's the same or not.

My partner started on FOLFOX but went into heart failure after the first 24 hours on the pump so they switched her to FLOX. Only difference between the two is one single "push" of 5FU rather than 36 hours of pump of 5FU (so much less 5FU in total). But she still had a port and received both the Oxaliplatin and the 5 FU through the port. The FLOX has been very effective, based on the PET results.

I would not advise doing multiple infusions of Oxaliplatin without a port. Not sure why you would. There is no free lunch with chemo.
