Mets to Omentum?

Postby dedebonner » Wed Jun 17, 2015 11:47 am

Hi everyone! I'm new here and hoping for some feedback.

I was diagnosed with Stage 3C in October 2013 after an emergency surgery to remove obstruction. Went through 11 cycles of Folfox. October 2014 I had another emergency surgery to remove a large tumor on my ovary. Hello, Stage 4. 12 cycles of Folfiri with Avastin followed.

I finished in April 2015. Two weeks later I had a PET and 2 spots lit up. Had a colonoscopy and one spot was found inside the colon....assumption was made that the other spot was outside of the colon. Scheduled surgery to remove tumors.

Four weeks later (6 weeks post treatment) I went to the ER for pelvic pain. Had a CT scan and they found a baseball sized tumor on a blood vessel attached to my aorta. In addition, there are about a half dozen spots in my omentum. Surgery cancelled and I started Folfox with Vectibix. And for the record, Vectibix sucks. :D

So, I know this is bad. My oncologist said that without treatment, I would have 12-18 months. But I would be on treatment until I decide to stop. I see someone tomorrow for a second opinion.

In the meantime, has anyone had an experience like mine and if yes, is it all doom and gloom? Are mets to the omentum the worst case scenario???? I assumed liver and lungs were the bad guys so I'm completely confused now.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

There's always hope! My daughter had a similar situation. Surgery, all clear then 17 months later a spot showed on Ct. Biopsy showed it was cancer. They opened her up and it was peritoneal/omentum mets like a web. But she researched, found a Hipec specialist and got on folfiri with vectibex which shrunk those mets. A year later laparoscopic surgery showed the mets were dying off! She had Hipec but then complications made her very ill and she couldn't recover, too weak and she passed. But chemo can get rid of omentum Mets, along with Hipec surgery. Research it!

What grade cancer do you have. I have a low grade (slow growing) so now I'm off to have HIPEC to get rid of everything. I have been doing Vitamin C high does intravenously and my cancer is not growing just there doing nothing. I refuse chemo and it looks like I have a few years up my sleeve even if I don't have surgery. HIPEC is the way to go now.

If you are still on Vectibix try antibiotics for the rash. It cleared mine up. I took Keflex.
Male Age 53. Dx CC with numerous liver mets 6/23/12. Colon res 6/24/12. Started folfox 7/24/12. Added avastin 8/27/12. CT 12/27/12 still showing shrink. Took 17 rounds of FOLFOX. Then 5-FU + Avastin. Switched to Irinotecan for 1 yr. CEA rose to >400. Switched to Vectibix 2/18/15. CEA decreasing. Scans show some growth in liver mets. Lung Mets stable to shrinking.

Try searching with "Omentum" and you can find some others who have had spread there.

Bev explained in one thread that HIPEC surgery includes removal of the Omentum. Many did chemo prior to the surgery to shrink tumors. I've heard others with mets in other places being told they would likely only live 12 to 18 months with no treatment, so I don't think that's just for the Omentum.
