Clear colonoscopy - hate prep!

Postby teachpdx » Fri Jun 12, 2015 4:34 pm

So I got a clear scope and was vowing to never take another one due to gagging etc. trying to get all that shit  down my gullet.

After the scope my gastro doc said I could be on e/o year scopes vs every year scopes 'cause of Lynch. Very relieved because I was thinking very seriously of being NON-COMPLIANT.
......I'm not much of a sweet eater/drinker and tastebuds have become much more sensitive since chemo so preps tastes even WORSE than it did before. ........Threw out a bit of the prep - can't figure out why they don't titrate the prep.

So you mean to tell me that little 'ole me of 127lbs and rectum and sigmoid colon-less needs the same amount of prep that a 250lb man with all the essential parts needs?

I suspect that prep dosage is less than an exact science. I take less than what they tell me to as I seem to be very sensitive to it.

I can usually choke down 80% of the gatorade/miralax.
I feel like such a rebel when I dump the remainder, LOL.

Since my major surgery over 10 yrs ago, my stomach is a LOT more sensitive to the prep solution. Once I was trying to get the 2nd dose down when my stomach tossed it back up not once butt twice. At 10 pm I have a call into my surgeon, when she called me back, she asked what color is my output (colostomy). When I told her, she said I was clean and see ya in the morning.

Since then, when I see that same yellowish output, I stop taking the solution. So yes, with less colon, etc, sometimes mean less prep solution required.

I also eat a light easy digestible diet the day before I prep. Eggs, mash potatoes, etc.

The first time I took the prep solution to get my cancer diagnoses, they gave me a huge bottle of horse pill. Those were worst prep solution ever, at least for me. I'm not sure if they use them anymore.

I got scoped every yr for the first 5 yrs, yes yearly scopes are rough. Now I'm on a 3 yr schedule, and I like that much better.

Lee

PS Congrats on a clean scope.

GI told me women have longer intestines than men...more curves & switchbacks, if you will, as I felt some discomfort. Glad you have graduated to every other year if you are comfortable w/that. Would be hard not to jump @ it. Good news on clear scope!

Best Wishes

Thanks for the well wishes and 'yes' I'm comfortable with e/o year scopes. I'm squeaky clean and I don't think my cancer happened in one year. My last scope before my diagnosis at 53 was when I was 40 - and if I'm correct there was a polyp on my rectum at 40 and why they didn't do anything about it I have no idea and it doesn't matter anymore - my point being is that it had 13 years to grow.

Not giving ANYTHING that long to grow again :D
