Update on me

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Sun Jun 07, 2015 8:08 am

I'm still adapting to my new normal. I stopped taking metamucil because it was causing too much gas and bloating. I've been trying lower doses of lax-a-day which helps a little. Since staring Dicetel no more spasms or accidents. Also some foods that caused diarrhea or accidents without Dicetel don't cause me problems anymore as long as I take Dicetel when I eat them. I'm not getting much pain anymore. My ct scans are scheduled for October 5th. I'm still waiting on genetic testing. I see my endocrinologist sometime in August due to parathyroid problems.

I'm still unfortunately having a hard time with my asthma flare up. I was tapered down to 30mg of prednisone from 50mg. When I was down to 30mg I had a really really bad asthma attack so I had to go back up to 40mg and slow down my taper from every 3 days to every 5 days. I've been having a really hard time with asthma attacks and chest congestion. I can take the maximum amount of medications, an expectorant and saline in my nebulizer. I have have allergic asthma and pollen season is really bad this year. I have to be really careful because my airways are so sensitive. I remain inside on high pollen days and limit my time outside on moderate pollen days. I have been referred to pulmonologist. Since there's only one here it could be a long wait. I'm going to call this week to see if they got the referral and ask to be put on the cancellation list. My asthma has never been this bad for this long.

Hi Darkness Embraced -

So sorry you're having so much difficulty.
Pete has been playing around with what "helps" with the new normal. He takes one
lomotil in the am, two Citruel caplets (am and pm) and this seems to help. No gas on the Citrucel.
Badass Jane started Citucel and I think (?) she is having good luck with this as well.

We hope things will get better for you Soon! Hugs!

I wish they had citrucel here but I've never seen it. I've never tried lomotil. Is it like immodium? Thanks for the support and suggestions Julie and Pete. :D

Here in Pennsylvania my friends with allergies say this is the worst year in a long time. Hope you get relief soon. And citrucel is just a different brand of Metamucil type stuff. Glad the accidents and pain are getting better at least.

Hi again,

Metamucil and Citrucel are yes both fiber supplements but have a different makeup.
It Metamucil is giving you problems then try Citrucel. You can get it online. Metamucil tends to be a lot
more harsh on your stomach, with more gas and bloating. That said, Pete tried Metamucil for a long time and now
is on Citrucel --- which seems to agree with him more! Sometimes, you just have to try and see for yourself!
Check it out online!!!! I'll PM you when I get home from work!

Cheers to you - and hugs of course!

So glad to hear the Dicitel is helping! Hopefully the asthma improves as we get away from pollen season.

I was having serious asthma attacks regularly until my doctor prescribed symbicort. 2 puffs a day. It's been so brilliant I even go out without my puffer. It's for asthma that can't be controlled by standard approaches e.g. prednisone, ventolin and all the rest of that stuff. Give it a try.

I'm taking the maximum dose of symbicort. It does help me a lot when I'm not in a bad flare. I'm allowed to take up to 8 puffs a day. They call it the SMART protocol. They only do it in Canada and the UK as far as I know. I also take reactine, singulair, avamys nasal spray, ventolin and saline in my nebulizer and an expectorant syrup.

Ouch - that's quite the medicine cabinet. I'm sorry to hear it's not doing better for your asthma. I hope things get better,

I'll second (third?) the recommendation for Citrucel. Definitely try ordering some online. It's what I use.

"Citrucel with SmartFiber contains only 100% non-fermentable fiber, so none of it ferments to cause excess gas like the fermentable fiber in Metamucil. This is based on laboratory tests. Results may vary in humans."
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?

My asthma became so bad yesterday that I had to go back up to 40mg of prednisone. This is the second time this has happened. I hardly ever wheeze but yesterday when I breathed out it sounded like I was snoring. I'm having a really hard time with my asthma. Still waiting to get my pulmonologist appointment. I don't know if Dicetel is messing up my system. I need to take it though because without it bowel spasms and accidents/diarrhea. It's hard finding my "new normal".
