Getting Closer to the Big Party.

Postby jens22 » Wed Jun 03, 2015 4:33 pm

5 years since I started Chemo and It was time to go to MSk for the 6 month CEA blood work. I had signed up for the Relay for Life to have a Team...but so much has been on my plate that I wasn't being a very good captain. As I sat in the waiting room...I saw the Fear...Young People. Older people, Spouse, Teenagers and that first fear started to come back. I got my blood drawn asked the Usual Question..." ANything new in treatment or Survailence...and I was told ...no... Saw my chemo nurses and when on my way.

Checked the CEA at Night...still 1.5!! Cheered, Cried and started to send emails for the Relay for Life..
Colonoscopy 3/10 for ? hemmorrhoid.
Diag Colon Cancer 3 days later
Colon Ressection 3/30/10

8 negative Cat Scans..... 10 years cancer free and Discharged from Sloane Kett!!
Diag age 47 , now 57 Mom of 3 boys.

Holy cow, as one of the unlucky, I read "the Big Party" as something completely different!
So glad that's not what you meant. Congrats on your results and have a great time!

Great news. I read the "Big Party" as something else too. Enjoy your run.
Male Age 53. Dx CC with numerous liver mets 6/23/12. Colon res 6/24/12. Started folfox 7/24/12. Added avastin 8/27/12. CT 12/27/12 still showing shrink. Took 17 rounds of FOLFOX. Then 5-FU + Avastin. Switched to Irinotecan for 1 yr. CEA rose to >400. Switched to Vectibix 2/18/15. CEA decreasing. Scans show some growth in liver mets. Lung Mets stable to shrinking.

Congrats! Enjoy the relay for life! My family has done it a few times, actually it was prior to my dad being diagnosed. It is such a rewarding event to participate in. There is NO one who has not been touched by cancer. I can tell you that you being there wearing that survivor tshirt (if that is what they do there) will be such an inspiration to everyone else!
DD to 81 year old father
dx 24/07/14 iv cc mets liver/lung
folifiri started 19/07/14

growth in the liver,started folfox/avastin 80% 13/01/16

I'm glad it's not the "big party" we were all thinking. Party on!

I thought I was the only one who interpreted the "Big Party" as something totally different. Congrats on the good news. Have fun at Relay. I will be attending the one in Tacoma (where it all started) this Saturday. Walking the Survivor's Lap and then having lunch, courtesy of Olive Garden for Survivors and their caregivers. This year will be different as I have lost two friends in February to cancer....one, Belle, to rectal cancer and another, Mariye to pancreatic cancer.
