What wonderful drug causes the lovely mouth sores? I have a nice one on the side of my tongue and it sucks.

Hey Kenny Yeah that's common. Have you tried the mouthwash from the Pharmacy? Its called Magic Mouthwash it works pretty well. They mix it up at the pharmacy for you.
Magic mouthwash usually contains at least three of these basic ingredients:
•An antibiotic to kill bacteria around the sore
•An antihistamine or local anesthetic to reduce pain and discomfort
•An antifungal to reduce fungal growth
•A corticosteroid to treat inflammation
•An antacid that helps ensure the other ingredients adequately coat the inside of your mouth

Hey Kenny

It's my first, what a treat indeed.

You never forget your first...

Exaussie has good tips, the Magic Mouthwash is the ticket.

(And...this is probably TMI, the MM also helps on the other end of the spectrum, as in 'rhoids. I was out of Prep H and grabbed the nearest bottle during my last bout with Folfox).

Fool fox is the only one that actually caused me sores. Some of the otjers made my tongue and mouth sensitive. The magic mouthwash is good but doesn't last long. I have more luck with hydrogen peroxide. Most recommendations say dilute it with water but I use it full strength. It will heal them in a day or two for me. Just be sure not to swallow.
Male Age 53. Dx CC with numerous liver mets 6/23/12. Colon res 6/24/12. Started folfox 7/24/12. Added avastin 8/27/12. CT 12/27/12 still showing shrink. Took 17 rounds of FOLFOX. Then 5-FU + Avastin. Switched to Irinotecan for 1 yr. CEA rose to >400. Switched to Vectibix 2/18/15. CEA decreasing. Scans show some growth in liver mets. Lung Mets stable to shrinking.

My husband started getting mouth sores after being switched from FOLFOX to FOLFIRI + Avastin. Magic Mouthwash seems to help a lot, as does me remembering to not feed him spicy food when he has one .
DH - dx Dec 2014, stage IV with bladder & peritoneal involvement - non-resectable
Colostomy
FOLFOX failed
FOLFIRI failed
Tumor actually distending pelvic skin
Not a candidate for last-ditch pelvic exenteration
Stivarga finally begun 2/19/16
Tumor growing/fungating
Lonsurf started 11/18/16
Died 3/10/17

I agree with the magic mouthwash. I would also swish with salt and baking soda as well. Not as much relief as the mouthwash, but I think it helped them heal faster.

I hope it clears up soon, those sores on your tongue are the worst!

Weird as it may sound, applesauce helped me when it was only one or two, a spoonfull in your mouth, leaving it there for a few minutes.
The acid from the apples helps. Can't hurt either :P

OTC Biotene helps my mouth. I'm so dumb I always thought it was what people were talking about when they mentioned magic mouthwash. I guess I know better now.

It's the worst SE for me so far. I seem to be able to hurl and just move on. A nap is a good SE. No diareah thus far. I'm thinking a month long surf trip,to Costa Rica is calling my name plenty of saltwater rinses.
