No, but you got me interested. I used to take 5 HTP (triptophane) for mellowing out, energy, etc., but you never really know what you're buying with that herbal/natural shit ('cause it ain't regulated by the govmint!), so I quit investing in a hit-and-miss proposition. Plus, I gets better mood enhancers these days from my onc.

But, I digress.

Maybe I should start home-growing triptophane in my garden, then I'd know what's up.

You're looking at 18 broccoli plants and about the same number of different kinds of peppers. I also plant lots of beans, cukes, cherry tomatoes, herbs, carrots, peas--the usual array for around here. My specialty is lettuce, but I do pretty well with other greens like spinach, Swiss chard, beets, etc. This year I'm trying celery for the first time.

Actually, I do all of my watering with that can. Try to use rainwater whenever possible. I'm too lazy to run a water line out there, so I'm humping 5-gallon buckets of water out to the watering can all summer long. I think plants appreciate, in some way, the extra attention. I don't think there's anything necessarily mystical or telepathic going on--it's just that individual beings of all kinds respond better to individual care and attention. Plants are certainly proof of that, and it's gratifying. I guess that's much of the fun/satisfaction I get from gardening. I'm still the master of my own little part of the ecosystem.

Eric
You just know that I can't sit in the background and let those pics go bye. It is getting pretty cold here now and it was 6 degrees C (42 degrees F) when I went for a run this morning so you know that the variety of produce we get is not that great at the moment. I'm into my organic stuff which is generally grown locally so the choices are a lot more restricted. I love my beets (Beetroots as we call them) and all we are getting at the moment are swiss chard, beets, turnips and pumpkins...all those lovely winter hearty sort of things. I am getting serious veggie envy just looking at your pictures.
I'm looking at moving from my apartment in the next few months, to another apartment with a smaller balcony so my little herb garden is probably going to stop.
One day, when I get organized I'll need to do a visit to NY just to help you eat some of those veggies. Until then keep posting pictures.

OH, also way O/T but there I run about 4 miles to a big park where there is a big loop road that I do a few laps around and then run back home. There are just tons of cyclists there. I get there about 5:30 AM and there are always cars lined up outside (they don't open the gates until sunrise which is about 6:50 am at the moment) with guys unloading there bikes, and then inside they get themselves into groups and there are probably about 5-600 riders doing 4 km (2.50 miles) loops around and around. They always seem to be a fairly aggressive mob, and I often remember your posts about cycling with eagles circling overhead and think that there must be a couple of different types of cyclists.....you are the more relaxed natural type I would imagine.

Here is a photo that I stopped and took my running gloves off to take this morning as it was just so beautiful.

Wow, both gardens look amazing!! Mine is just your typical rectangle dirt farm garden. I got a lot of it in yesterday, but waiting for the guys to be done seeding our crops so they can help me with the potatoes. My tomatoes and other bedding plants have to wait for some rain. It is so dry here my grass is crunching under my feet.

Oh, how I LOVE seeing garden photos and reading garden talk!

For the past month, my husband and I have been looking at houses in a rural part of Long Island. I think we're both ready to leave Manhattan. The first thing I'm going to do is learn about gardening. I've not even had a house plant since the 80s (dark apartment), but I'm hoping to be able to grow some (easy) vegetables.

Keep the photos coming!
