My new met shocked the doc

Postby bjones1128 » Mon May 18, 2015 10:44 pm

So after three months of pain my oncologist finally ordered an MRI for my knee. He told me today he was shocked and amazed when he received the results a couple of weeks ago. In his 18 years of practice he has never seen colon cancer spread downwards to a leg bone. He went to the GI Board he is a member of (at Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, NC) and all of the other docs were amazed, as well. Glad I could give them something to marvel at

I am now getting radiation on the knee but was just wondering... has anyone else had any bone mets in the lower limbs?

Hi, sorry to hear your news..hubby by didn't get
A bone met.. He had a pain and swelling knees and some joints part before for a long time.. Doctor thought its a bone met. But lucky not. In fact it is acute kidney failure.. Because of Tumor blockages. End up of permanent nephrostomy.

Bradyr, a past member who is no longer with us had multiple bone mets on his legs. Bone mets can usually be treated very effectively with radiotherapy. Here is a post where bradyr talked about his bone mets:

If your onc is not already getting you a monthly denosumab (XGEVA) shot, make sure to ask for it. It helps protect your bones from adverse events in the presence of mets.

Definitively push your onc to get you on denosumab shots. Multiple trials (see below) have shown it is much more effective than Zometa at preventing bone complications.
