New weird met

Postby Mastan » Sat May 16, 2015 11:23 am

I had a skin growth which I thought was from an infected hair follicle. The docs thought the same thing and put me on antibiotics. No change to the growth resulted from the antibiotic. I went to a dermatologist and asked to have it removed. They did path on it and found it to be a met! Now it's time for another PET. Can't wait to see those results! Never heard of mets showing up in the skin.

That's an odd one Mark. I guess the plus side is they're easy to remove? Good luck with the scan hopefully this is a rare occurrence for you that won't be repeated.

Yeah, it should have been but the path report showed some cancer cells at the tumor margin so I get to enjoy having more tissue cut out this week. The upside is that they will do genomic testing to see what mutations are there. If I am lucky maybe it morphed into KRAS wild but I am not counting on it! The Dermatologist said she had seen this with other types of cancer but not CRC.

Mark, I've heard the drug tas-102 is showing better than expected results and is promising for us mutants. Coming soon to an oncology clinic near you!

My good friend has colon cancer mets on her skin. One first showed up in her groin area, and now they are on the back of her legs. She said they hurt if she presses on them. A biopsy of the first one confirmed it was colon cancer mets and not skin cancer. I've read online that mets to the skin from colon cancer is very rare. They told her they could radiate them down the road if they start causing her problems but that it's a bit like whack a mole, where they will just pop up elsewhere.
She is going in for surgery today to deal with an aggressive spinal met encroaching on more nerves which has made her legs weak. I hate cancer.

How deep and spread are they? Can they cut them out?

I had one that was in the groin area. Had it removed but there is some stuff in the margin that must be removed. Will possibly have rad after surgery. It appeared to be an infected hair follicle at first. Very misleading. Never heard of a CRC met appearing in the skin prior to my case.

Interesting. I have a pea sized nodule under my skin between belly button and hip bone. Dr said it's nothing and we will watch it. Maybe I should mention again before surgery?!

How long has it been there and has it changed? You might consider going to a dermatologist to have it looked at. When the dermatologist examined my spot they said it was not a cyst but were not sure what it was so it was removed and biopsied.
