Looking for a HIPEC surgeon

Postby Cherie » Tue Apr 07, 2015 12:38 am

Hey Everyone,

Tired of sitting around feeling great, waiting to die. So I'm going to look for a HIPEC surgeon to get a second opinion. This means I must travel to the States or to Australia. Please give me the name of any aggressive HIPEC surgeons you may have had.

I'm still doing Vitamin C and have a lot more energy. I actually have more energy than I have had in years. Do I think its getting rid of my cancer ...i wish but boy do I feel better. Adapt is causing me some serious pain and on a small does not sure if it is worth continuing.....?

I haven't had HIPEC, but I know that Ryan Holbrook in Spokane WA, US does HIPEC regularly and has done them for years. He's not one that usually shows up on these threads, but he has done some amazing things with his patients.

Vilca,

Here in Pittsburgh there is a miracle surgeon named David Bartlett, using a chemo DURING SURGERY protocol called HIPEC. Info here: http://www.hipectreatment.com/?page_id=298. A friend was operated on by him with multiple liver mets in stage IV CRC and is now NED. It only works for peritoneal mets. We met with him last week to ask if he would be L's surgeon when the time comes for that, and he was a good listener and clearly a very smart man and daring doctor.

Cherie, I was able to get opinions over the phone from two doctors regarding HIPEC. Dr Labow at Mt. Sinai in NYC, and a surgeon at UC San Diego. Dr Labow was julieyw's surgeon, and Rhealiza's. His office requested medical records, he reviewed my scans and his PA talked to me, she answered many questions. I think this is something he does on a weekly basis, and I was very impressed. UC San Diego has 3 hipec surgeons. They do a very in-depth, formal phone consultation. They wanted most of my cancer medical records, scans, etc. I consulted with one of their surgeons, was as thorough as an in-person consult. There is a fee you must pay at the time of your consultation. Ultimately, I ended up deciding to go with my local surgeon, he is not one of the "big names" but he has been doing hipec for many years. I will be having hipec in 4 weeks. If you want, I can give you his info. I don't know if he does phone consults, but I do know that patients have traveled here internationally to be treated by him. He is very aggressive. Good luck, please don't give up. Keep knocking on doors until one of them opens.

I had 2 HIPEC surgeries in Pittsburgh, PA by Dr. Herb Zeh. He is a partner of Dr. David Bartlett that Vilca11 mentioned. I love him. He saved my life. He took my case when other HIPEC surgeons wouldn't.

I get so nurvous when I see Posts looking for HIPEC surgeon and Dr. Paul Sugarbaker in DC, the FOUNDER of the procedure. He saved my life, saving a friend's life today from these boards and is absolutely, hands down the most skilled, compassionate doctor I've met.... And agressive! Yet, will need to review your scans and history before committing. Feel free to pm me. I was told I'd be dead within a year of peritoneum spread ( 2 years ago). Today I'm NED.

I just found out I had peritoneal spread and I contacted UCSD (San Diego) and UPMC (Pittsburgh). UPMC requested a lot of medical records and then it went in front of a tumor board, which I believe is held every Thursday. My case was reviewed this past Thursday and they called me on Monday to tell me I was a candidate. USCD's process was less formal. They requested all the same medical records, but the Nurse Coordinator called me to review the records and then discussed with the doctor. I did go to San Diego in person to meet with the doctor for an initial consultation because it isn't too far, but I am sure they would do a phone consult since you are so far away.

Don't give up. There are a lot of great doctors out there who are willing to go above and beyond. The oncologist I saw with the surgical oncologist in San Diego said he would keep fighting until there was absolutely nothing left to do. He is the first oncologist I have seen that was that passionate about trying everything in his bag of tricks before he gave up. If you want more on info on them, please PM and I can give you contact information and names.
