Haircut story

Postby mymom » Wed Apr 01, 2015 4:50 pm

Mom's normal haircut 'person' is out of town. She does not pay a lot for her haircuts. But I told her go to the girl I just went to for the first time to get cut and color. I said they are so nice. She made an appt. She told them her hair is thin from chemo so don't pull on it when she made appt. She got a great cut. At the end of the appt they told her they all discussed it and they decided her first cut was on them. How nice and sweet. I only went to this place ONCE last week because I figured it was time to start doing something with my hair and its not like they have known me for a long time. They knew she was my mother because she mentioned me to the girl that did my hair. They basically gave this treatment to my mother out of the goodness of their heart. She did not even tell them her normal hairdresser doesn't charge her much. They had my business after they did my hair last week but now they definitely have my business for life. What makes it even more special is that this place is in Greenwich, CT. Where I live. Greenwich is known for its 'uppety' attitude with some although there are many nice people here. Its a high end salon as well. Just a fabulous story.

I would of course much rather not be dealing at all with this horrible disease, but the one bright spot is that I have really seen how good and caring people are. I felt really alone (except for my husband who is great but pretty much the if we don't talk about it we can pretend it doesn't exist type) when I was diagnosed because I have no family nearby and only had lived in the area for a year, but so many people (even those who I don't know very well) have been so nice and supportive. Including those on this board of course.

I love this story! Thanks for sharing. Actually, when I started chemo,...they all said "Don't worry,...your hair may thin a bit, but not all come out". They lied. It all fell out in handfulls. I cried awhile,...then said (@@%&***&&%%@@@@) and stuff like that,...and got a razor. Off all that scraggly "baby-bird" stuff came. Then I got a fantastic little blonde wig from my chemo clinic (for absolutely nothing!). They also,..(like your story) were so very helpful and understanding. Now my hair has all come back in even thicker and fuller than it ever was before! So yes,..having your hair (or wig) done nicely,..really does help your self-esteem while your'e doing chemo and after. Understanding and helpful people are just so wonderful.

When she was on folfox several years ago she lost all her hair and wore a scarf. Folfori rounds her hair just thins but doesn't come all out which is good for her. Now that she is off chemo as of Monday her hair should rejunvenate a bit.

Proof that even the smallest of kind deeds can have a lifelong impact on someone.

Before all this hit the fan, I had hair down to my derriere. When it starting falling out, it was in random hairs. Lonely long pieces everywhere. So, I went in and had it cut to my shoulders. She only charged me for a bang trim, which I didn't expect.
