It's Back. UPDATE next page

Postby ktwmn » Fri Mar 13, 2015 10:30 am

Well, after nearly 4 years NED I learned, following my colonoscopy yesterday that there is a new mass, not near the anastomosis site but on the other side of the colon. This is my fourth colonoscopy since dx in 2011; the last scope was in 2013 so needless to say I am pretty devastated and stunned that something could grow that quickly. The phrase "Lynch Syndrome" was suggested. Any others with metachronous tumors? Any insights/words of wisdom? I was really hoping I could possibly get on with my life but now it looks like I'm back to square one. :?

the only good part about this is you know the road ahead. You've learned so much in the past 4 years and really that is a big part of the struggle. You know what's coming (scary yes but soothing also). Keep your chin up.

Well, that certainly sucks. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this again. Do you know if your original tumor was micro-satellite stable or unstable? It certainly does sound as though Lynch could be coming into play with your previously diagnosed ovarian cancer. Are they testing you now? My colorectal surgeon talked about removing the majority of my colon as a preventative measure if my Lynch test had come back positive (it didn't).

THanks for your kind thoughts, everybody. lpas: I've not been tested for Lynch but perhaps when I meet with my oncologist we will discuss this. On my original pathology report the only thing stated about MSI was "MSI-MMR: Present."

So very sorry. I am sure it would be devastating to think this is behind you for so long and then have a recurrence. If it is only in the colon hopefully they can treat it again. Try to stay strong.

I hope this can be nipped in the bud. What's being suggested for treatment? Surgery and then chemo?

So sorry to hear this. I hope that you get a plan in place real soon to beat it again. How did they find the tumor during your colonoscopy if it was on the other side of the colon?

Huh, that's not very clear, is it. Seems like "present" could be interpreted two different ways--to mean that instability is present or that the mismatch repair gene is present. I'd definitely try to get some clarification from the oncologist and if it turns out there was instability last time around, I'd request to get the Lynch testing ASAP so you can hopefully get the results back before your surgery. Good luck and, again, so sorry you're having to deal with this!

I got tested right away with out asking because my age, then talked to a genetics person to see about further testing which they figured I didn't need. Mine was negative. You could ask if they tested and what for.
