ODTAA

Postby pog451 » Thu Mar 05, 2015 9:50 pm

So, the day before I'm supposed to be going home I hit a 39C fever, they decide in going yellow again and my liver stent needs changing. Supi

Did that yesterday but they seem, rather than just a new stent, to have installed a "blinking great drain".

Certainly if the sudden change of urine color from burgundy to straw is an indication, perhaps the stent has always been to small.

Anyway, not feeling too bad now and aiming for home on Tuesday. Of course "home" means medical bed and palliative care, but even so.

Pog, home and palliative care sure trumps hospital and not-big-enough stent! I hope you get good time at your home. Please let us know how you are doing.

I think I may know what you are referring to by a "blinking great drain", & if it has external tubes w/a bulb or bag on the end for fluid collection it certainly could be called the "mother of all drains".
The important thing is to get that bile/fluid out of there & eliminate/reduce backup/pooling which can cause abscesses, infection, fever. Less time in the hospital, ER, the better.
There is medication to keep the bile thin & flowing if appropriate in your case.
The stents can only be as big as the roadway will accommodate, so think of it as a roadway where traffic backs up sometimes requiring construction of an overpass or a turnaround (the drain) diverting the overflow.
Sounds like your docs are doing what needs done in managing this & keeping that biliT # down.

Best Wishes
