Longevity study followed over 100 years .
A Swedish study that followed the health
of 855 men born over a century ago,
Including 10 who lived to be centenarians.
They found several keys for a long life:
Maintain safe cholesterol levels
Don't drink more than 4 cups of coffee
a day.
Don't smoke.
They also found that those who owned
homes and had mothers that lived a
long life, lived longer themselves.
They surveyed the men throughout their
lives on their habits and health. They
also kept track of how they died.
More than a quarter of the group lived
to be 80, 13% to 90, 1.1% made it to
100 or more.
The study found that 42 % of deaths after
The age of 80 were due to cardiovascular
deasease.
20 % to infectious disease. 8% to stroke.
8% to cancer. 6% to pneumonia.
16% to other causes.
Another important fact to note; nearly
a quarter of the over 80 group were
diagnosed with some form of Dementia .
This study's unique design has enabled
us to identify the factors that influence
