Come here anytime you need to rant, chat or whatever!! That is what this place is for. Frenchie was so good to so many and has been an inspiration with his positive attitude all along that he has given many hope. So sorry about the bladder infection, they are VERY nasty. My dad had one that really screwed him over. I hope Frenchie can get some help and that he enjoys that banana split!! Remember to take care of yourself Dianne, this cancer bullshit is hard on the caregivers as well as the patient, just in a different way.

Hey Diane,

Let me just say that this is the one place I feel we can all come to vent, I've done it on many occasions and still intend to do so even though I lost my Husband nearly 3 years ago.

So keep writing, keep venting, I for one am glad to hear from you.

Hi Diane...No such thing as rambling on this forum. You are a member through association as far as we're concerned & updates on "Our Frenchie" are very much appreciated as well as your thoughts, questions, feelings etc. are welcomed.
We understand Ron's world is growing smaller, this forum furthest from his mind, so appreciate your time to report in.
No doubt his brother being there is a help to you as well as Ron.

Seems like Frenchie always looks forward to summer weather. Hoping the sun shines on the both of you.

Best Wishes

Hello Everyone,

Well hopefully Ron will be out of the hospital either tomorrow or Saturday.

They finally found pain relief for him in the form of fentanyl in a 72 hour patch. I am hoping that the bladder infection is all cleared up but Ron will have to pay attention
to pain in urination again and catch it sooner rather than later. They put him on heparin again in case of blood clots which was a big mistake, it resulted in bloody stools again.

Then he received 2 units of blood yesterday as his hemoglobin was 70. One doctor said he would have to come back in two weeks to have another transfusion. Not sure Ron is keen about that as he hates those damn needles....lol It is a surprise that the transfusion did not make him feel any better. I thought it would.

Ron is now going to give up his little room in the back of the house and come back to our bedroom. He is finding the hospital bed not comfortable anymore and he needs to be closer to the bathroom.

Hi Diane,

Thank you for the update, like Lee said I too am glad Ron is home.

I would have thought Ron would have felt a bit better after the blood transfusion too, but as long as it helps in some way that's still good.

Please extend my greetings to Ron, and tell him my Girls still sleep with the Teddies he sent and I use my Canadian Kitchen towel he sent all the time.

Sending you love and kisses as well as Gods Blessings to keep you strong.

Love always

Hi CRguy,

I read this post to Ron and he told me that his brain no longer functions well enough to help you with this kind of thing :(

He use to be my walking calculator BUTT that smart brain has slowed down a lot.

So....another appointment with the Palative care doctor yesterday.

First thing to address was his bathroom issues. With his other pain meds they constipated him, with this fentanyl thing this does not so they may be giving him diarrhea. Considering all the stool softening meds on top of that his BUTT is pretty sore. Took and X-ray to see if full or not.

Second thing she address is going to Palative care. I understand her talking about this as Ron needs to hear about this. She knows the signs of when it is time to move there even when she knows his wish to die at home BUTT he seems to have changed his mind about that as well.

He has always wanted to getting "another summer" and when September comes he does not care anymore. I left that meeting with a sense from the doctor that she is not sure that this is possible for him. It was nothing that she said but it was what she won't say. This was an emotional conversation for Ron as he does not usually tear up at these meetings

Ron and I talked about it later and he agreed, he got the same sense as I did BUTT he is going to fight for his summer.

Only a few months ago he could walk about 4 km with the dogs and I, now just to get to the appointment yesterday he had to stop twice. He says his legs feel like rubber - all rubbery. The cancer is finally getting the best of him he says.

Hi Diane,

Thank you for the update, this is a very trying time for you and Ron I know, but just continue to be strong as you have done already.

Talking about Palative Care is always heart stopping and not what anyone wants, sorry, I don't know how your system works but Golden had Palative care at home with the kids and I, we had nurses come to house all day, if the Doctors wanted to see him they also made a house visit, at night we had a nurse stay so I could try and get some rest.

They helped with everything although I still bathed and gave Golden his medication as that is what he wanted, but they were there for help and backup if I needed it.

I had hospital bed, oxygen machine, needle machine for IV etc everything he needed in the house, can you do that? Or is it not possible in Canada or not what you guys want.

It's just an idea, it worked for us so I thought I should mention it.

Anyway you know best for Ron.

Sending you Strength, Love and Gods Blessings

Hi Diane,

Yes thank you for the update on our Frenchie. I'm sorry it was a difficult visit. I hope and pray he is able to enjoy this last summer. He is the "energizer bunny" and he just might do it especially when he puts his mind to do something. He has beat the cancer odds over & over again. I can see him beating this odd too.

I also hope he can get one more day in at the casino.

Diane, take care of yourself, know that we are all here for you. Feel free to vent here anytime you want or need to.

All the best to you and Mr. Frenchie (I know his name is Ron, butt he will always be Mr. Frenchie to me).
