colon and partial rectum resection

Postby kbrink » Wed Feb 04, 2015 4:41 pm

My husband was diagnosed with colin cancer Dec 4 2014 and had surgery Dec 19. They removed part of his colon and part of his rectum. The cancer was also in 2/27 lymph nodes. He started chemotherapy Jan 3rd. He is 46.

He has been having pain and feels like he has to go quite frequently
Most times there is no bowel movement. Is a feeling of pain something that should be occuring? I had a colon resection but it was colon only not rectum and no cancer . I don't remember having the problems and pain he is. I assume it is because of the removal of part of the rectum.

The doctor failed to tell us part of the rectum was removed. We only found out at his 6 week checkup even though I specifically asked about the rectum after surgery because the tumor wss close to it. UGH!

Anyway....has any one had experience with partial removal of rectum?
Thank you

I had half of my rectum and half of my sigmoid removed during my colon resection on November 20th, 2014. I'm still experiencing pain, lots of bloating and sometimes a sense of urgency. I usually have several small bowel movements a day when I do go.

I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy yesterday and they stretched the anastomosis site because it was really narrow. I'm hoping that helps my symptoms. They also removed a polyp.
