How long does incision stay red?

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Sat Jan 24, 2015 11:54 pm

I don't expect the redness of my incision to be gone at 2 months. I'm just curious how long it takes for the incision to turn white?

@Darkness

Is the incision swollen? Any pain and tenderness?

It starts to fade at half a year. At one year it is noticeably less red. After that I do not know how long it takes for it to turn white. A couple of years I suppose.

my "zipper" scar turned white ages ago, but my ileostomy scar is still red 9 years after the take down.
I think it's because I was so enthusiastic about packing the dressing in, maybe there's a wider band of scar tissue.
I am not my disease.

No swelling but my incision is still tender but my surgeon's office said this was normal. I'm not really worried about anyone seeing my incision just wondered about the normal healing process. My surgeon and oncologist have said it's healing well.

I was wondering.. How did they sew you back together? They did all my stitches on the inside. Then put liquid skin (glue) on the outside. You had to leave it alone and wait for it to fall off by itself. You can't even see the bikini line scar at all, drs were surprised at how nice I had healed. The cut above the belly button is white but healed a little lumpy. It does take a while to heal to white .

Are your staples still in ? If they are maybe that's what could be causing some of your pain too. I hope you feel better soon and figure out the digestive issues. I'm still trying to figure things out after all these years . Either I go to much ... Or once a week. Finding a balance is tough.

No, I got my staples out December 2nd and then had steri strips for 10 days. Yes, it's really hard finding a balance. I tried taking one tablespoon of metamucil in the morning only and no docusate. I'm not sure what's normal anymore.

I know if I go to much. I take benefiber tablets and align . If I don't go for a week I take a magnesium vitamin, but then you could be going all day after that(for me any way) my digestive system is all crazy. I am now trying fodmap diet my gi dr suggested it ... It helped with the going to much problem. When you do fiber supplements I know I have to drink a lot of water or it plugs me up (constipation).

I drink lots of water. I either have small soft stools several times a day or am constipated. There's no in between for me, it's all extremes.

I get it! I was so all over the place too .Very frustrating to say the least! All very hard to figure out the new normal after having a foot of colon removed.
