Not sure if you researched the low residue diet, but it is mostly white breads, white rice, pasta, bananas - basically all constipating type foods but they are slow moving through your system. My surgeon said they don't want the colon overworking until it is healed which is the basis of the recommendation. Good luck - hopefully you will call back today.

I have to be very careful what I eat because I get constipated very easily. I've been taking metamucil and ducolax twice a day for a while now. I did try the low residue diet before surgery.

DE
I don't know if this will help you , but for me I was told to lay on the left side with a heating pad . Also bending knees up to chest. Helps gets the gas moving ,also agree with low residue diet . Hoping you feel better.

I'm in a lot of pain this morning. A painful burning cramping feeling on the left side of my abdomen. It's a little bit on the right side but mainly centered on the left. When the bloating gets really bad it's much worse on the left side. I'm still having small bowel movements. I'm not sure what's going on. I'm still trying to get a hold of my surgeon's office!

Maybe it's time to go to the ER. Can't believe that your surgeon is this unresponsive.
Dx Feb 2010 4 cm tumor, just inside rectum
EUS stated T3 tumor
2nd opinion, need better path
Mar 2010 transanal surgery. Surgery by board certified CRS found tumor only in lining
6 exams of surg site, 3 PET, 3 scopes laterNED.
Scope in Mar2015, clean colon
Next scope/test in 3 years

That is really disappointing your surgeon's office hasn't gotten back to you. I am not sure what the current pain means (probably just random pains from healing), but I would want someone to check that out just to make sure it is part of the normal healing process. I think if I were you, I would insist on an appointment today or ask for them to refer you to someone who can see you. Good Luck.

My surgeon's office didn't answer because his secretary was waiting for my surgeon to call her back. I wish she had told me that instead of not answering. I just talked to my surgeon only to find out that all of this time I haven't been taking enough metamucil! I was taking a teaspoon or a scoop(according to the package directions) instead of the two tablespoons in the morning and evening that he wanted me to take. He also said add colace 100mg twice a day if metamucil doesn't work. He said all of my pain and bloating is most likely due to constipation. I checked with my pharmacist and she said the docusate I have is colace just under another name. I didn't think I was constipated because I have been having small bowel movements several times a day some days and none at all other days. I still don't know what's normal for me. I really hope the metamucil and colace(if needed) help!
