Split-Dose Bowel Prep: What's the Logic?

Postby brigita » Sun Jan 18, 2015 6:21 pm

I'm prepping for my every-three-years follow-up colonoscopy this week and have to do the PEG (GoLytely) split-dose prep.

Does anyone know what the upside is to doing a split dose vs. all at once? Because the only thing better than bowel prep is getting up at 2am to finish it.
Stage III rectal @ 33, 4.5mo postpartum
Ovary transpo: 12/07
33 tx rad+Xeloda: 2/08
Lap LAR 0/11 +nodes: 3/08
8 FOLFOX tx: 8/08
Ileo reversal: 9/08
CIPN since 10/08
Normal uterus + lame ovaries = infertile

The reason for the split dose is that the body continues to produce secretions and by the time of the colonoscopy, the cecum (right side of the colon) walls may be coated enuf to obscure flat sessile polyps which are hard enough to view under the best of circumstances. Thus the theory is a split dose will result in a clearer field of vision during the colonoscopy.
