thinking of you, BELLE

Postby skypup » Tue Jan 13, 2015 12:29 am

Hi Belle,

I'm thinking of you tonight and hoping you are feeling better. Is your energy level any better? Are the after effects of the trial drug diminishing?

hugs to you...

Thank you for all your kindness. I spent the weekend in the hospital with a blockage but I'm home now and feeling much better. Had quite a time in the ER on Friday night. The place was packed and I bet 70% of those people didn't need to be there. They were chatting with friends and family, texting, walking around. And lots of obese people there. I have nothing against obese people - I could stand to lose a few pounds myself; I just found it odd so many were in the ER. So there I was sitting there - literally crying from the pain with my barf bag, shaking (my leg shakes badly when I'm in pain). It took over 2 hours for me to be seen.

Once in - 2 different nurses tried to access my port to no avail. The 2nd one tried to flush it with saline and it hurt so bad I literally screamed out loud. At least they got a vein on the first poke and finally got some fluids, pain and nausea meds into me. My ER nurse was some young guy that had a Tigger personality, was quite pleased with himself and liked to tell border line inappropriate jokes. I couldn't wait to get away from him. He was awful.

Once I got a room upstairs the treatment I received was excellent. A nurse from IV Therapy came to my room and accessed my port successfully with one quick poke and I got rid of the IV. I was released Sunday afternoon and felt so much better.

Yesterday I even cooked dinner. It was super quick and easy - a bottom round roast in the crockpot with sliced carrots, fingerling potatoes and for the liquid/seasoning, a can of cream of mushroom soup and a packet of dry Lipton Onion Soup Mix. When it was all done I took the liquid - put it in a pan on the stove, added some corn starch as thickener and made gravy. Doesn't get any easier than that and it was delicious. I even had wine with dinner. First time in months.

Today I see my oncologist to tell him I want to stop treatment and bring in hospice. Wish me luck and strength. I know he's going to want me to continue treatment and I just can't do it.
