Not quite, Kenny! CT noted three new nodules in my lungs, two in left lung ( one is 2cm x 1.6cm) and one in the right lung. I just had laser surgery on the left lung six weeks ago! However, after contacting Dr. Ladas in London, he wants me to send him the scans so he can look at them as he is confident that these are post-surgical change or inflammation. The new spots are very close to where he resected some nodules, if not the exact same places. He said that if the radiologist us not used to reading scans post laser lung resection that it can be tricky. So, I am getting copies from MDA to send to London as we speak. CEA is lower now than it was in Sept. and Oct. 29th. It was 1.7 yesterday! We play the waiting game now and start Folfiri tomorrow for four treatments then scan again and see what has happened. Confused and disappointed but hoping for the best!

Sorry Stevie it's true they can be misread. It happens with my scans they're still not sure what's radiation effects and surgeries damage. Ridiculous. So I'm on adapt until we figure it out good luck on your scan being studied by the right guy.let us know.

Kenny
Just another hump in the road. Has to be surgeries effects how does a 2cm show up,that fast ?

Try not to worry too much until Ladas sees the scan. After my first lung surgery, the radiologist noted something, but it was just from the surgery as I had a few deep nodes that Dr. Rolle was able to get out. It just reads differently that what they are used to seeing. When VATS or lobe removal is done you can see a cut, when they are resected by the laser they are dug out and leave behind a hole or scar tissue. After surgery there is always inflammation as well.

Carm, what did the scar tissue look like on CT? I saw a few black spots but not as many as Mr Ladas had resected.

Stevieb - my DH had the same experience - except in the liver...was told 6 weeks post resection he had new lesions every where he just had resection...my immediate thought was it was post op healing. The liver surgeon agreed. It doesn't make a lot of sense that you would have a NEW 2cm lesion so close to your recent surgery, with a decreasing CEA. Keep us posted.
