Diarrhea accident

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Fri Dec 12, 2014 9:08 am

This morning I had a small diarrhea accident. Usually I'm constipated or having clustering with soft or hard stools. I have a very low grade temperature of 99. I know that's not right but for me it makes me sweat when it's in the 99 ranges. This is the first time this happened to me since surgery. I ate sunchips last night which have fiber in them so maybe that contributed to the diarrhea. I should stop the stool softener until the diarrhea is gone, right? The metamucil bulks things up so it should be fine. I'm not sure if this is due to the sunchips, cumulative effect of the stool softener or just a part of the effects of surgery. I'm having lots of painful cramping especially on my left side where the anastomosis is located. My surgeon's office is closed until Monday.

I would stop the softener until things settle down. I had one episode like that shortly after taking a softener. It was nice to feel cleared out.

I will stop the softener until it settles down. It wasn't a huge volume thankfully. I took a dilaudid and two extra strength tylenol to help with the pain. Is this to be expected as part of the after effects of surgery?

You should check with your surgeons office someone has to be on call. I think we have a lot of things going on after we get rearranged. It's hard to know what's what.

My surgeon's office has no one on call. They just say if it's an emergency to go to the ER or call 911. :( I know that my surgeon said that my bowel movements would be all over the place.

Well I guess sit tight and keep an eye on the temp. Things change daily so hopefully this is just another blip in the recovery process. I try not to worry to much and listen to my body. it seems we know when something is really not right. Shit I haven't even gone in for surgical follow up yet one month out  next week though. Have a good weekend and just take it easy on yourself you will be flying high again soon my friend.

Leave it to Kenny to say "Sit Tight", he forgot walk tight, think tight and keep a tight end. Accidents will surely occur for a while. Watch your coffee intake, (like I didn't do this morning), and keep immodium handy, justin case!

I'm on number two cup. I have to go for port flush this morning where I will work on the " perma clinch" I was only up once last night and around five times all day so that's not so bad.

I will have to get some immodium because I don't have any at the moment. You're right just listen to my body. It could be another blip. I don't know what to expect day to day sometimes hour by hour. I see my surgeon for a follow up on January 6th. I take my steri-strips off tomorrow.

I was wondering if peeing standing up was a thing of the past? It may be. Oh well maybe it's time for a heated padded bidet seat. And a small flatscreen in the b.r.

Is dizziness a part of side effects of surgery too? Between meals I get dizzy if I move too fast. I did take two extra strength tylenol and one 2mg dilaudid but they have never caused dizziness before. It might be that my blood sugar is out of whack because it's been a while since I've eaten. I don't have much of an appetite so sometimes look at the clock and realize how long it's been since I've eaten so I eat.

I've often envied you men who can pee standing up, because I think that contributed a lot to how many times I had to go in the months that followed my surgery (and during radiation), once you sit down, all bets are off  During chemo was the worst, I'd have to pee a hundred times in that 4+ hours and what a pain in the ass! Having to sit, which means you crap, tugging along your pole with your chemo bag, and during that time my ass hurt like a bitch, so I'd have to bring my little goodie bag of rubber gloves and calmoseptine into the bathroom. Oh, the glamorous life of rectal cancer & treatment.

And unfortunately, accidents are most likely going to be a fact for a little while. I didn't have too many, never had one at work, thank god, mostly at night or failing to heed the "never trust a fart" rule at home.

As far as the temp & dizziness, make sure you let your doc know, justin case :D

I'm coming up on four years since my rectal surgery. I have my ups and downs, but my situation is diarrhea prominent. Mostly, I wake up at 5 with tremendous gas, go straight to the toilet then hit the kitchen for 4 Immodium. 99% of the time, I'm good until the next morning. Workout twice a week and I always wear depends as the ab work tends to cause leaks. ALWAYS keep a spare set of clothes in the car. I still feel amazingly fortunate to be sitting here and typing this as I was originally diagnosed with a T3 tumor from an EUS with the chemo/rad and APR surgery.

The biggest lesson I've learned is not to sweat the small stuff and to be really proactive when I believe something us not right.
Dx Feb 2010 4 cm tumor, just inside rectum
EUS stated T3 tumor
2nd opinion, need better path
Mar 2010 transanal surgery. Surgery by board certified CRS found tumor only in lining
6 exams of surg site, 3 PET, 3 scopes laterNED.
Scope in Mar2015, clean colon
Next scope/test in 3 years

Change or 2 of underware baby wipes and a plastic bag to get rid of the evidence
Do to all my surgeries for my fistula I still have accidents
At work on the subway doing the laundry o the fun

Take it easy it does take a while to feel better
