Darkness, I think the dizziness is probably related especially upon standing up to quick. I would sit up for a minute before just jumping right up. I seem to have pretty low blood pressure these days. I do get lightheaded often especially when I'm less active recovering from a procedure. It sounds like you have a lot of pretty standard side effects of the surgery I would just make a list and ask the surgeon about them to put your mind at ease. You've been through a lot. Our bodies our probably just wondering wtf we are doing. It's rebelling. Like a teenager.

Geez Darkness, now you have us all on poop control  A little stool in the pants just keeps people away from you, although they don't know it's you, unless you wear white clothing. It has been suggested, that when you have extreme gas, walking is good. In America we go to Walmart, where no one will be suspect. I'm sure in Canada, there are large shopping areas where one can get needed exercise, and beneficial gas relief.

We have a super Walmart. I'm not up to going out yet. No vehicle so I would have to walk out in the cold to catch a bus. I will definitely go to the mall again where Walmart is located to walk around. What I find hardest is not knowing what to expect day to day and not knowing which foods will cause problems. It could have been the sunchips because I hadn't had them since surgery until last night and this morning.

At your point, all foods and liquids, could be suspect. Leafy vegetables or fruits with skins can cause major problems. If you like apples, peel them, the same with tomatoes. Finely chop, all leafy greens, ( yes I know that makes them less desirable), should you decide to imbibe. Potato soup, bland diet items, may well be what helps you at the moment. Time is your friend, as well as light exercise. After 6 weeks, you should notice a difference, until then, use pain meds in accordance with your doctor's recommendation.

I'm scared to try leafy greens and especially broccoli. I've been eating lots of soup, sandwiches and the odd frozen dinner.

The potatoes sound delicious! I don't eat most meat. I only eat fish and seafood. I have lots of tuna sandwiches.

I'm making potato soup tonight, as it was a request from my wife. it has been a while since it was an every day affair. I still don't like shrimp as much as I enjoyed before my ordeal. I have a super Walmart 1/2 mile away. I buy beer 1 at a time at the Murphy gas station. The manager at the Murphy had colon cancer 20 + years ago, and we get along well. The greeter at the Walmart, has a wife who is just about 2 1/2 years out from colon cancer surgery. This thing called cancer surrounds us everyday. You can probably tell I'm outgoing, and have no problem speaking my mind. With that being said, all the things you encounter on this website that are considered things you should ask your doctor, must be addressed by your doctor. I do not know anything but my own experiences, and all of those decisions were suggested by my doctor. (although Jaynee and Rix, might have had a little influence). I would wait on the broccoli, and all leafy greens for a while.

What do you put in your potato soup? I've only ever had potato and leek soup. Leeks are out of the question for me now.

I couldn't eat soup for the longest time - it would go right through me. Had a salad and chili with cabbage last night and except for some gas am OK. It takes quite a while for things to settle down. Your gut has been traumatized and it needs time, first to heal and then to find the "new" normal. Carbs and meat were my friend for a long time. I've just recently been able to eat without thinking so much. Time, time, time :?

You can put chicken in potato soup. Carrots are good too. They seem to be good on and for the gut.

Carrots would be good. I once had a vegetable puree soup that didn't agree with me. I think it was because of the cabbage.

I start the pot with a little bacon and onion, and set them aside. I use the remnants, to season the potatoes, and then add liquid accordingly. Then I return the bacon and onions, before serving. You can skip the onions, if they are a problem, and season with your favorite spices. I'm a black pepper and salt fan, but you can also alleviate the pepper. Salt will help you retain much needed fluids.
