When I was diagnosed with "IBS" in 2011, I had a colonoscopy without meds. It was ok.

Watching the scope move on the TV was a trip. My GI doc removed a polyp while I watched. I gasped as he began to cut the polyp out when I saw blood on the screen, but I felt nothing! They laughed when I gasped and said don't worry, it's not going to hurt.

Use meds, it is the air they blow in that adds to the discomfort. I once had a full colonoscopy without meds and it hurt like hell when they went round the bends. Besides I like the feeling of the meds. ( potential junky alert)
