chemo nurse talk

Postby pfCml73183 » Wed Nov 12, 2014 1:26 pm

Pete wasn't supposed to see the Onc today but the nurse called in the PA to look at his fingers. His cuts are not good! He heard the nurse tell her later that she was afraid of loosing her license because of his condition.
The PA said to play on.
Has this happened to anyone else?

That's odd. Why would a nurse get blamed for a chemo side effect? Why would a nurse even think that way?

Agree with Belle. That's an odd comment from a nurse. She should notify his onc about his fingers, but it's not her call what to do about it. Ultimately, it's the onc's responsibility.

Must be erubitex side effects. I'm sure there is some burden on the nurses to report such things but the primary responsibility I would think lies with the patient amd doctor. I, as I'm sure most, don't see the doctor before every treatment so the nurses would be the only contact at that visit. I usually see the doctor every other treatment. Some nurses are more apt to ask questions about issues and side effects than are others.

I may be adding erubitex soon so I guess I'll learn more about it. Hope he's better soon.

I am actually glad the nurse noticed his fingers were in bad shape and brought it to the PA's attention now that I have thought about it.
I have a problem with her talking about her license being on the line. I think it made him feel like a leper and he wasn't a priority. I don't think she meant it that way but and he was fine about it until he heard the nurse was only for herself. His opinion, not mine.
thanks for listening, Celeste
