O/T Using an IPad.

Postby JDinNC » Tue Nov 11, 2014 12:14 am

This is way off of topic...but I hope someone can answer this question.....for those using an IPad. Have you ever hit the back up key and have it turn black which freezes the whole scene. I can't tell you the number of post I've tried writing only to hit the back up key and somehow for some reason my scene freezes and I have no ideal how to unfreeze it. I have to close out the whole page and start all over again. I'm not real computer smart and this as really pi$$ing me off

Thanks for any advice

When you say "back-up button" do you mean the arrow at the top of the screen to return to previous page? If so you may want to check and see if your IPad is keeping history of previous pages visited. I have not had that problem with mine. Sorry I can't do more for you.

I haven't had that problem using my ipad although this site does randomly log me out when I have just written a post or PM so I have to do it again if I can be bothered.

When trying to opeN the CC my ipad also sends me to a page with an alligator on it saying he is 'hosting' the site. Maybe a euphemism for the alligator has 'kidnapped' the site????

Is this only happening when on this forum? Not when you type email or some other posting on a different site?

Once in awhile, I just have to take a minute and just turn my iPad off and then back on. It resets itself as it is starting up. I probably should do it more often, but it usually fixes whatever issue is cropping up

JD,
I've lost a few posts while being on my iPad. I always copy the message before I submit it. This way I have backup. Rebooting the iPad frequently helps with other kinks.

That is your "Delete" key JDinNC, in the on-screen keyboard of the iPad. On a page in this forum it will often delete what you have done as opposed to the "back arrow" on a browser which should take you to the previous page ( BUTT may also delete your current page if it is not keeping the history  )
(( also ... since the touch screen keyboard will respond to other "touches" ... you might accidently be activating more than one key at a time if you are a touch typer ??? and some key combinations do weird and/ or useful things on the Mac systems .... not a problem for me as it is all I can do to hit one key at a time  ))

Confession : I can't get happy with the iPad, personally use a MacBook Pro or desktop, and let wifey struggle through the iPad stuff. She uses an attached bluetooth ZAGG keyboard case and finds it way easier to use than the onscreen keyboard.

Like Icesk8tr I always copy or use a text editor to compose a long post and then just copy it into the forum edit window => never lost a post since, even if the forum goes down or chokes on a connection. If you save a draft into the forum editor you could still lose your contents if the system crashes before the save is complete. BTDT

And YES ..... flaky connections and host server glitches are always a possible issue for any of us.... also BTDT !
