Re: POSTCARDS FROM THE EDGE.... ONGOING

I had a residency interview yesterday in New York City. My aunt (my dad's sister) and cousins live there, so I brought my mom along since she's never been and always wanted to visit. My aunt took her to do the typical touristy things and I met up with them later to join. This is us at Times Square.

It was so nice to see my mom genuinely having fun and forgetting about what's happened to our family over the past couple of years, even if it was only for a day.

Agreed -- we are all so proud of you! And I am selfishly glad to have another heart-centered doc in the biz. Yay!

From left to right:

Older son Jonathan. Finishing PhD in Particle physics at UCSC. He went into the Peace Corps after getting his undergrad degree and taught secondary school in the Namibian bush for over two years. Profs were sure he could never get back into grad school (took too much time off) but not only was he accepted at UCSD and UCSC but he has a National Science Foundation grant. He is looking past the Higgs Boson to proving the existence of dark matter.
Younger son James: In charge of day stalls and farmer markets at Pike's Place Market in Seattle.
James's Wife Valentina: Here on tourist visa from Russia. They met and fell in love and got married. They just survived the latest surprise visit from Homeland Security checking that the marriage is not a sham. We are hoping she will have the news that she can stay by Christmas.

My husband and I are very lucky. Lois
