stage 4 NED again

Postby mungo » Fri Oct 31, 2014 7:37 am

Just thought I'd post to show us stage 4 NEDers do exist. Had most recent scan result today and I remain in the clear :) I have to say it genuinely doesn't get any easier going for the scans -I feel sick with dread every time -but I know how very important it is to know that all the pain and suffering can absolutely be worth it ( I still search for good news posts when I'm having an emotional 'episode' ........).I'm glad to see this board continues to be populated by the same caring, thoughtful and knowledgeable people that it always was, and who can still make a reader laugh out loud with their innate wit, despite the circumstances. It truly was my lifeline so I post good news to hopefully give you a pick-me up.You all have my very best wishes, biggest hugs and strengthening vibes as always.

Yippee Mungo! Sooooooo happy for you!

I got good news on Monday. Remission (I dislike that word and prefer NED) but my onc said 'remission'. Remission gives the impression it's gonna come back. NO evidence of disease sounds much more positive, don't you think?

Then he told me the 2 mm thing in my lung hadn't changed in any way and they were 'unconcerned' and I never knew I had a thing in my lung. Oh..... he said I have something else that's been there for 6 years but they knew what it was from the first CT and it's not anything to ever be concerned about. Funny how I didn't even ask what that was and freaked over something the size of a grain of rice.

He said remission and unconcerned about the 2 mm so I'm taking that and praising the LORD!

It's TIME we had a LOT of good news on the forum. I think I counted 18 people I knew with CRC that died in 3 weeks last month.

Congrats to you too Diane -fantastic news ! I completely agree that I consider myself NED, not in remission. Your lung thingy tale sounds similar to what happened to me except mine did start to grow. I mention this not to freak you but to say that my docs said there's loads of things that pop up on scans that turn out to be nothing/harmless. That's why the scans are so important - if the thingy changes in any way, then they re-evaluate but they're not going to do surgery when there is not a clear clinical reason to do so.
I am in England and bearing in mind I was diagnosed end of 2006, it is only at recent appointments that they have started to explain my scan to me in much more detail. This has made such a difference as it is reassuring to be talked through it rather than them making a throwaway comment and then me getting home and like you, thinking 'I didn't even ask what that was' and starting to worry....What I have certainly learnt is to listen to advice on this board aka take one day at a time/worry about facts rather than what your fevered imagination has conjured up/breathe !! My only regret is that it took about 5 years for it to sink in :?
Bev -it's lovely to hear from you too. I do pop back every so often but I am absolutely committed to posting good news so that newbies and anyone else sees that even with stage 4, the outcome can be good!
