Billiary Drain Placed

Postby raym » Thu Oct 30, 2014 10:17 pm

This past Tuesday I had a billiary drain placed as the liver bile duct was blocked and I was jaundiced. The procedure went as planned. I was under twilight anesthetic though I remember the local inject at the drain side as well as discomfort while the drain was inserted through my skin. This was done via Interventional Radiology and required an overnight hospital stay. I'm still pretty sore, though I went to work today. My liver numbers showed some decrease and my jaundice appearance has gotten better. The drain tube needs to be changed every 8-10 weeks though they can also do an internal stent, but not sure if I would be a candidate for that. Still things to discuss with doctor(s). Ugh, I just can't seem to get a break (though am happy that the blockage has been treated as that was rather urgent).

You have a bulb or bag @ the end of the tube? They put you on Ursodiol to thin the bile? I know you were concerned about getting around with an external drain. Was wondering how you were doing with that.

Sorry for another bump in the road. Glad they could get the drain in and improve your liver numbers--and your jaundice. I hope the soreness will be less today and you can have a restful weekend.

For now I have a bag at the end of the drain. No meds have been prescribed at this time. The plan is to cap off the external drain tube but not sure how soon. I have an appointment next week to check liver numbers in the blood. I'm getting around ok with the drain, still sore though.
