I am deeply saddened to hear this news. Marc's writing was amazing and I so enjoyed reading the wisdom that flowed from his words. We, too, shared emails for a time and I was always touched by his graciousness. He was in the process of writing a book. Does anyone know what stage his book is at? I would love to read what he had to say. My dear Marc, rest in peace. You will be greatly missed.

Oh, Maia, so heartbreaking to hear this.
I can vividly remember the first time I read his blog, like Oneeyeddog said, in one run, I cried and laughed for a while after... The poetry, the humor, the depth, the rationality, the hope that ultimately transpired through... Brilliant writer, and a man I would really have liked to meet personally. I look at life, death, cancer, health care, in such more nuanced ways because of him. It's still amazing for me, how people that are physically so distant can touch us so deeply and so authentically...
I miss Marc.

Oneeyeddog wrote: he was not afraid to embrace the dark side of cancer. He didn't fall into these easy cancer cheerleady cliches and, despite his wry tone, I always found that by shedding light on these dark places, his writing was actually remarkably optimistic and full of hope.

Offering my most sincere condolences to the family & friends of lohidoc. To his children...his legacy will live on in you. And to you Maia for your heavy heart, streaming tears no doubt, while writing a beautiful tribute in his honor. Thank you for including us newcomers. I too had run across some of his postings while purusing the site & was hoping he would post again sometime. His postings drew you in.

Incredibly sad to read this,
I loved Marc's blog, he created his own wonderful & unique atmosphere for the reader, I always imagine his sitting on his
porch at peace with the world.... glass in hand. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him, he was a special human being.
Thank you Maia for letting us know.

After the tears have dried and the goodbyes have been said, all we have to hold onto are the memories that we’ve shared in the forum of who have passed, this is what keeps them alive in our hearts and in our minds, and they will continue to live on, through us.
Lohidoc was along with Gaelen and Karmel, one of the finest brains on this board.

Marc had been very much on my mind during the past few weeks. I'm glad to hear that he was with his family during his last days, as was able to share an important milestone with his son. RIP Marc.
