So, my wife had propofol this morning not propanol, with her endoscopy. I got slightly confused as I see propanol daily. I can only afford propofol when insurance might cover a portion. So be it, I don't live in Canada, and health insurance isn't free in America. Those in America without insurance, are seldom offered the choice of a port, and some are not offered chemo.

Hi,

I have seen that Meatie does ask a lot of questions, and I only know too well that sometimes as a caregiver you can feel a bit helpless and lost for answers, it helps to get feedback from other people that are going through the same things.

But one thing that must be pointed out, if we knew your age, even roughly it is easier to understand where you are coming from, New Kid on the Block, In your Thirties and rocking or a chilling OAP, this is a very Important piece of imformation that will help everyone, Help you more like Bitchslapped pointed out.

By the way My husband had a Picc Line Inserted on Thursday and is currently having a half dose chemo infusion and hopefully can come hope tomorrow :) Yipeeeee

Please take this as just a gentle response from someone who has been through a shitload of cancer wars .. personally, a caregiver ....personally having lost two loved ones, and a Stage IV survivor myself ...7 years and counting .... AND a survivor of an ARMAGEDDON of online flame wars including legal harrassments and contacting DHS issues  ..... AND nuking trolls the first few months on this forum back in 2008 !

It is really easy to attack and chastise someone whom "WE" think "WE" know is doing such and such.
BTDT many times and it never turned out well !!!

TRUTH : WE really don't know shit about what someone else is actually thinking or feeling.
DARE : Let them be who they are and weigh into the discussion to help or " Let It Go " ... my granddaughter's fave song right now !

SO.. if you think someone is a troll : report the post, notify the Mods and we will deal with it.
If you think you really don't like someone or their posts ..... DON'T read them .... move on to more positive things.
IF you suspect someone IS a troll .. what they want is attention ... SO maybe don't give them any ??????? Don't react ?????
Admins / Mods can track and nuke them .... BTDT !!!! MANY times ......

Life is too short and cancer is too serious for us to waste any energies on messing with each other.

@bitchslapped
I am in the mid 30s.

As for why we didn't ask the nurse or doctor more questions, sometimes we feel that they don't want to be bothered too much unless there is a monetary incentive. When we try asking questions over the phone, they always suggest scheduling an office visit to talk face-to-face, so they can charge us an office visit fee. At many office visits, the doctor always recommends buying health supplements from them. "Cash-balance-billing" (where the doctor requests off-the-books cash payments in addition to insurance payments, deductibles, and copays) is also common. The surgeon that did the colon resection for my mother has hinted at a "small" under-the-table cash payment for his services, even though the insurance already paid him. The surgeon originally billed us $7000, but in-network discounting forced him to settle for $2000 from the insurance. Even though technically (legally?) he has been paid in full, he still wants another $1000 cash as reward for doing such a good job (I do admit that my mother has had, so far, very few complications other than frequent bowel moments). So, where I live (sf bay area) the doctors are not always the most approachable unless we are ready open our wallet. That's why I have to search for answers from sources other than our doctors.

You need a new oncologist if they will only talk to you after getting a copay. Both my oncologist and my surgeon have given me their cell phone numbers and told me to call them any time.

I understand the idea of not answering questions without an office visit, but I'd report any Dr that asked for additional cash payments. I'd also find a Dr that charges a reasonable fee.
Male Age 53. Dx CC with numerous liver mets 6/23/12. Colon res 6/24/12. Started folfox 7/24/12. Added avastin 8/27/12. CT 12/27/12 still showing shrink. Took 17 rounds of FOLFOX. Then 5-FU + Avastin. Switched to Irinotecan for 1 yr. CEA rose to >400. Switched to Vectibix 2/18/15. CEA decreasing. Scans show some growth in liver mets. Lung Mets stable to shrinking.

If we report any doctors, we might get blacklisted and then no doctors would see my mother.
This is the curse of living in sf bay area.

I grew up in the SF Bay Area. My mother lived there until he died about four years ago. I can't begin to tell you the numbers of doctors I have personally seen in the area. Not one has ever asked for cash under the table. My mom had breast cancer, internistal lung disease, a broken pelvis from a fall, and spent more time at doctors than you can imagine!!

Again, never did a doctor do any of the things you are accusing them of. Except if we had a huge amount of questions, then we were asked to make an appointment

Please find someone who can explain the medical system in the US for you. Please get help
Dx Feb 2010 4 cm tumor, just inside rectum
EUS stated T3 tumor
2nd opinion, need better path
Mar 2010 transanal surgery. Surgery by board certified CRS found tumor only in lining
6 exams of surg site, 3 PET, 3 scopes laterNED.
Scope in Mar2015, clean colon
Next scope/test in 3 years
