LAR and sweet red peppers

Postby chrisca » Tue Oct 14, 2014 6:22 pm

With LAR, I've had some challenges controlling diet to find foods that cause problems. I finally figured out that sweet red peppers, roasted or pickled, will get the colon upset enough to completely empty out after a meal. I'm sure everyone is different regarding sensitivity to food, but wanted to share this in case anyone is looking for foods to eliminate to improve bowel function. Oh well, this is a food I liked a lot.

Also, just had my 3-year CT. No evidence of recurrence. Hooray!

I love hot peppers, I can't grow the sweet red yet, the birds like them too much. My onc gave me a prescription strength Pepcid, and it helps me tolerate them.
Congrats on your 3 years, I'm right on your heels.

I'm still figuring out things myself, but decided that if I'm looking for a clean out for an event, if I eat lightly cooked onions it does the job. I think sweet peppers would do the same thing. I've found that if I make sure I eat plenty of protein and carbs with the trigger foods I can eat some. Not as much as before, but I don't totally have to give them up. I love cabbage and can't eat the quantities I used to. Beans don't bother me as much as they used to, so I'm going to give cabbage a try this winter.

I had a similar reaction to tomatoes in the months following my LAR, but it stopped being an issue after about 6 months. Now, I can eat pretty much anything I like, though I always try to eat the healthiest food possible.

I'm not the gardener many around here are, but my Tabasco peppers are finally coming out, as are the chili piquins, and pepino peppers.
