how long for PET results

Postby tif2112 » Mon Oct 13, 2014 7:28 pm

Hello,

I know my CT scans were usually on my dr's website like the next day. But I had to go out of my usual place to get my PET scan and was wondering if they are pretty much the same in time line for results or do PET take longer? Thanks!

The availability of readers is what determines when the results (report) is available. At my center, if I am scanned early in the morning, the report will be done before the end of the day. The later the scan, the later the report. But if your new scan place does not have full time readers, it is hard to say.

I've had one PET scan. I had it around 11:00 AM on Friday, September 5, and the oncologist called me that afternoon around 5:00 PM with the results. I don't know if this is common, but I'm glad I didn't have to wait over the weekend.

I got a call from the Dr. tonight and was told that multiple lymph nodes showed up and a lung thingie. She is expediting referrals both to a hematologist and pulminologist (sp?) I'm gonna go tomorrow and do a chest xray and a spirometer test. Hopefully the referrals will go through fast and I can get in to see the specialist to see what is going on. Trying to be optimistic!

Yes. Stay optimistic. My oncologist said there are so many things that can light up, and there are variations of intensity of the light. He said I had a few lymph nodes light up, but they were well within the "normal" range. Wishing you and me continued success !

This. There can definitely be a wide range of experiences with scans. Not all outfits are streamlined/online either.

A local nurse told me the radiologist are now working from home and are 'reading your scans in their p.j.'s'. My onc has always made me wait a week or more for any results. I really complained 6 months ago and he promised it wouldn't happen again....... and then he decided to take a trip. I made a stink and will get my results in 4 1/2 days this time.
