I have great treatment in the Baylor system for my laryngeal cancer - should celebrate freedom this December at five years NED. Baylor is big, advanced and organized enough to provide thorough treatments in house. But UT Southwestern has an excellent reputation.

For colon cancer I am sticking closer to home and utilizing Texas Oncology - Mesquite. I will change to UT Southwestern or Baylor in a second if I feel my treatment is inadequate.

My daughter saw the Baylor docs at Texas Oncology. She had Hipec at Baylor and then spent several weeks in and out of Baylor. The old hospital is awful, nursing care was bad. Idk if they are understaffed but we are 10 hours away and went there to find her in a desheveled condition, not having showered, with bloody teeth, pills lying all over the bed she didn't take. awful! Then her oncologist got her in the new adjoining cancer hospital. Wonderful care, clean, nice facility. Some staff rotated over from the building and they were not good nurses (IMO). I would not recommend Baylor old hospital at all.

I spent five years at Baylor/Texas Oncology. I'd look into UTSW. If you decide Baylor, please pm me and I'll give you some info on docs and how to navigate to get better care.

I've not had experience with either, but would recommend MD Anderson for a second opinion if you feel the doctors are not treating aggressively enough or if you feel there isn't a good partnership with the onc. Stage 4 is not to be trifled with, obviously, and you need to feel comfortable and confident in the treatment strategy. I've been lucky enough to have been diagnosed and treated at the Mayo Clinic, and then MSK after moving to New York. A top notch cancer center is really helpful, even if just to assure you Baylor or Methodist are on the right track.

Good luck,
Chris

After a year of surgeries and treatments at MSK Tracie really prefers a city where she has support. Her family lives in Dallas and our local oncologist recommended Baylor or MD Anderson.
With a little luck, persistence and help form so special friends we have an appointment with this very talented doctor on Thursday at Baylor

Excited and a little scared at the same time. Guess that is normal.
