Things My Mother Used To Say (Or Anyone) Past Or Present

Postby bitchslapped » Sun Oct 05, 2014 1:02 pm

My father passed away when I was young, so my mother was the biggest influence in my life. Though she is gone now, her legacy carries on. Often I find myself reflecting on "the things she used to say". We must have been talking about marriage, wedding rings etc. She had a very thin white gold wedding band that had long been put away in the dresser drawer. Their set cost $25.00 back in 1935 when they got married. I remember my mother saying:

"I never owned a diamond in my life & I was just as married as anyone else."

You sure were, Mother.

One saying that my mother used to tell me and I think of often.

"Buy what you like and buy the best, you never know when you could be stuck with it."

Lee

P.S. I too lost my Dad at an early age and my mother was also a big influence on me.

Do fathers count in this topic ?

Having lost my Dad in January, and still blessed with Mom still here,
I would probably say the most important thing my Dad ever said to me was :
" I love you, son. "

But since that would not apply from him to all of YOU ....
The next best thing was :
" The only person you have to answer to every day, is the one you look at in the mirror every morning, so make him proud. "

THAT my friends, applies to everyone.

Word !

Cheers and Harmony

Of course fathers count! (Anyone)... Grandparents, aunts, uncles, best friend's parents, spouses...anyone who was a mentor, gave life meaning, words to ponder, lessons to be learned that we carry with us, just things they used to say for the heck of it. Even those who are still with us (past or present). For me it was my mother...so another from my mother:

"Your grandchildren are your children twice over."

@CRguy - wise words from your father.

My mom used to say: "would you be glad if someone did the same (my behaviour towards somebody...) to you?"

My dad raised 3 daughters during the 60's and 70's...he always told us that girls can do anything that boys could do...and never be told differently....his thinking was way ahead of the time.

Well, singingholly, my mother also had been known to say: "If the shoe fits, wear it", & yes, I have done that a time...or two...or three...

Well,..
My dear old Mom passed away recently at the age of 98. She was a life-long "cronic worry-wart". Finally,...in the nusing home she told me:

..."The things I aways worried about,...never came to pass.
....the stuff I didn't worry about, actually happened. So it just
doesn't pay to ever worry in the first pace!"
