After my dubious scan results, we decided that a biopsy was the next logical step. They were able to locate it with an ultrasound, so we didn't have to go through the MRI guided biopsy. The radiologist came in and thought that he may have to go intercostally, but thank goodness for great ultrasound techs! She suggested that I take a deep breath to see if that would shift things enough to avoid going between the ribs and she was right! They started me off with some versed, so I was surprised to be awake the whole time, especially since I only had a few hours of sleep the night before. The lidocain wasn't too bad until the very end. Ouch! Good nurse handling the drugs though - immediately pushed fentanyl through. So with me properly drugged up, it was literally a few deep breaths and I was off for the mandatory 2 hours of rest.
I was supposed to meet with my onc this morning but he called me a couple of hours before the appt to tell me not to bother coming in - it was good news! It is not malignant, although they are still puzzled by what it is. It could be a couple of different things, but they are sending samples for the hepatic specialist at UCSF to play with. Stains, etc.
We joined the wine club at St. Francis in Sonoma and we just got our quarterly shipment in, so I think we're going to crack one of the bottles open. Maia, thank you so much for the information you shared. I am going to happily file it away in case I need it down the road. In the meanwhile, I have a date with my DH and a nice zin.
