You look healthy...you are going to be fine!

Postby kpjpmom » Mon Sep 22, 2014 9:48 pm

I have had several well meaning folks tell me this when I have told them that I am anxious about my scan tomorrow. I guess they do not know what to say to help my anxiety so they say this. I hope they are right. I wish it were that easy, just looking good. We could maybe bottle it up and sell it. Both times I was diagnosed before, I looked "good" and people were so perplexed that I had cancer. Just a little nervous. It is what it is. That's my motto!

Well, that's annoying as hell :). I found that annoying when my DH was undergoing treatment. I guess he looked good, in fact better than usual as he had dropped about 15#. Anyhow, wishing you the best on the scan!

Have to admit, until you start this journey you have no clue and you try your best to say things that are positive. It sure looks different from this side of the fence, even as a caregiver. I know I will be choosing my words more wisely when talking to someone.
DD to 81 year old father
dx 24/07/14 iv cc mets liver/lung

I agree w/ canadiandaughter. People on "the other side of the fence" don't get it and never will--that's fine, lucky them. Part of this journey is just understanding that people don't know what to say most of the time. We just have to say, "thank you" and move on. It's nobody's fault. Just part of dealing w/ this monster. I'll even go one step farther and say even people in the oncology field w/ "pump you up" with platitudes until they actually get the documentation of definitive met disease. I guess it's better than everyone saying, "Lymph node involvement at dx-- yeah, you're toast!"

Everything turned out well! NED for me at this time. I get to go to every 6 month check ups. Oncologist is going to go to a yearly scan if the next one is good or if I start feeling "anything" out of the ordinary. Thanks for the poultry swinging and thoughts.
