What does rectal pressure at this stage of the game mean?

Postby fldoghouse » Wed Sep 17, 2014 7:00 pm

So I'm 3 months shy of my 5 year diagnosis. All my scans and bloodwork have been normal. However, these past two weeks something has "been rotten in the state of Denmark". And, yes, I plan on calling my doc tomorrow. I've been under some major stress these last couple of months getting a divorce, taking on a second job to pay for the aforementioned, etc.
These past two weeks I've been experiencing major rectal pressure - reminds me of the chemo/radiation days. I still go to the bathroom at least six times a day, but usually make it in time. However, these past two weeks I've been "not making it" in time. And the pressure is constant! I don't dare eat a full meal, and I haven't felt like that in forever.
And while I haven't posted in a while, I am always a lurker - or I really should say a "pray-er".
This board was so vital to me when I was going through treatment, and for the year post.
Has anyone experienced anything like this after being fine for a few years?

You don't mention surgery in your sig line but I assume you did have a resection. 2.5 years after my resection I still get pressure a lot. It seems to be worse when hemorrhoids are being bitchy. It's also worse when I have diarrhea. Maybe you will get a scope that will rule out all the bad stuff.
Male Age 53. Dx CC with numerous liver mets 6/23/12. Colon res 6/24/12. Started folfox 7/24/12. Added avastin 8/27/12. CT 12/27/12 still showing shrink. Took 17 rounds of FOLFOX. Then 5-FU + Avastin. Switched to Irinotecan for 1 yr. CEA rose to >400. Switched to Vectibix 2/18/15. CEA decreasing. Scans show some growth in liver mets. Lung Mets stable to shrinking.

I did have a resection back in Dec 2009. My GI's nurse called me back tonight, and luckily there was a cancellation for a scope on Monday at 6 am. I said there's probably not many people saying "oh pick me, pick me, I want that colonoscopy appointment" but I did. In talking with some RN friends, they said the scar tissue from radiation is a lifetime gift and could also be wreaking havoc. And I'm trying a new prep which of course I don't remember the name for, but will be picking up tomorrow

I am getting close to 5 years NED, and although my bowel movements have improved greatly over the years, I still get an occasional 'clustering' bowel movement. I keep things under control by watching my diet, plus immodium, plus an occasional percoset. Apparently total normalcy after a rectum resection and also radiation is not going to occur, but the present bowel movement situation is acceptable.

So I will say that Suprep is the best prep so far (the taste was horrid and made me want to puke but I chewed gum right after). The "outcome" was the least violent and I don't think I had a single accident.
My GI said there was one small polyp that looked like the "ok" kind.
Today his office called to say the path showed it to be precancerous and come back in 2 years?! Oh I don't think so...
So I plan to call my ONC on Monday to get his opinion.
Thoughts please?
Thanks
I go on Monday to divorce the other pain in my ass, so getting rid of all kinds of crap on Mondays.

Well, you are cracking jokes about the divorce...so at least you are taking things in stride and rolling with the punches (hopefully not literally!).

Keep us posted on what your onc. says.

Good luck with your other pain in the ass.

Any update on the Onc's advice?

I am almost 5 years out and also have occasional clustering/pain in the evenings. Sometimes it seems to be related to diet, but other times I don't think it is. I get this about once a week or so, but never as severely as you were describing.
