Enterocutaneous fistula soft drain maintenance

Postby pukalania » Tue Sep 09, 2014 2:44 pm

Hi friends,
Wondering if someone has experience with this. DH has been with a persistent leak for almost a year now... That is super tiny like 25-30 CC a day but is still leaking ... Meaning there is still an Itty bitty hole in his small intestine... He has a soft drain connected to jp bulb and he changes the bulb every so often but the actual drain tube hasn't changed since it was positioned by radiologist now going on 9 months after last repositioning . Recently the tube has started to have a strong smell that is bothering him ( especially during chemo treatment) so wondering if there is anything out there to cleanse it? (He currently flushes with saline every day but I guess that's not enough ) the actual drain tube is so tiny so not sure if like the adapt lotion from illeostomy supplies would go in at all... Also worried it may go in his abdominal cavity ... So looking for any creative ideas of maintaining that soft tube?
Thanks so much
