My mom has been scanned every three months since her vats (2 lung nodules) in January 2014 which declared her NED.

Feb 2014 Scan (new baseline)
Surigical changes and a 3mm perifissural nodule

5fu mopup from March to September

June 2014 Scan
*unchanged 6mm nodule in the middle lobe (this was never mentioned in any imaging previously!!)
*stable 3mm nodule in the major fissure

September 2014 Scan
*unchanged 6mm nodule in the middle lobe (this was never mentioned in any imaging previously!!)
*stable 3mm nodule in the major fissure
* NEW 8mm nodule in the middle lobe in an area of previously ill defined opacity representing a new area of metastatic focus.

She is now scheduled for PET this Thursday 9/18 and we should have the results by the end of the day. We are so scared. Wouldn't the surgeon have seen a nodule while he was resecting a previous met in the right middle lobe? Wouldn't the chemo have kept it stable? The onc said she discussed the results with the chief of radiology and they say that it is most likely atelectasis or something to do with the surgical clips but would like to do a PET just to be sure.

So much anxiety.

Chris was supposed to scan last week and start the new clinical trial on Monday, but we were informed it's all been delayed for about 6 weeks due to a liver toxicity event presumably with one of the current participants. So, we are in limbo but I expect onc will be scanning him in the next week or two due to large CEA increases. :(

Good luck every one!

Well, heck. I hope the liver toxicity issue is minor and just means a dosage adjustment. I would say enjoy the time off, but I know being in limbo is difficult. Sending my best to Chris and hoping to meeting you both one day soon!

I just got back from NYC, while I was there, I had my scan, got my results, and practically skipped out of the building! :D

The Oncologist walked in, said "Your scan is good, everything we have been watching is gone, we're stopping treatment, we'll see you again in 3 months." I even got a little smile from her... :) For those that know her, her nurse practitioner pretty much gave it away that it was gonna be good results. I was a nervous wreck and I don't hide it well. She (the NP) was practically giggling the entire time she was in the exam room with me. I kinda figured she wouldn't be laughing and smiling if I was about to be told my cancer was back!

Anyway, I am obviously super happy with my results! Good luck to everyone else scanning...

My wife's next scan is coming up Sept 29th. Her last one was pretty good the beginning of July as nether she or the oncologist could see the mets that were on her spleen any longer in the scans, where as the radiologist was pretty ambiguous about them. Continued but slow progress on the calcification of the liver mets and still absolutely no change in a year to what ever they thought were small lung mets. So I don't expect a lot change this time around. The multi organ involvement pretty much negates her as a candidate for any kind of resection, so the best I can hope for is nothing new being found. Her last CEA was up a very small amount but she was very physically active the day before the test (all day on a horse) so she likely had some inflammation. She is tolerating the once every three weeks chemo very well. Only problem is fatigue really....

Julie, it's so nice of you to organize this thread. It's our own little rooting section.

So I got my results today.

The bad news is that there are numerous mets throughout both lobes of the liver. But I knew that already.

The rest is good news, at least as good as it gets for inoperable stage IV. My CEA has gone from a record high 127 to a little old 6 in the two months I have been on Folfiri+Erbitux. For the first time since my liver was invaded, no new mets showed up on the scan. There was a decrease in size of all mets, the largest one decreasing by more than 50% in diameter. My onc is discontinuing the irinotecan, which is the drug that makes me the most sick, so it'll just be a doable 5-FU and Erbitux. He also thought that scanning in 4 months instead of 3 is just fine.

All in all, a very good visit. Sigh...

So happy to share NED. I now have graduated to annual scans if my October colonoscopy is OK. Praying all those who scan get good results.
